I read about how he was training a lot in the offseason.

He is determined to be a stud when he retires!

He is pitching great, when wood/prior/miller come, think about this staff in the down the stretch and in playoffs if they are healthy

Prior/Zambrano/Wood/Miller/Maddux.

I hope Carlos gets back on track.

Dude is Tearing it UP so far.

He's kinda like Yoda. He walks out with a cane, kicks ass, then walks off slow.

The resemblence is there.

A 300 game winner I am. Watch and learn you will.

I just noticed Maddux has thrown exactly 87 pitches in each of his three starts. So far he's been the perfect model of efficiency and consistency, which this club sorely needs during this first month. Tomorrow I'll be wearing my Maddux 300th win t-shirt with pride. Let us now lift our glasses to Maddog's continued dominance! [finishes off Sweetwater IPA]

I don't think the comparison to Yoda is apt. you know after the K's to Robles and Repko on the classic sinker on the inside/outside corner he said "Sit Down, Rookie." Yoda would have been much more nurturing.

Maddux for 9 million is a waste of payroll!!!!! J/K Eat crow Maddux bashers.

eat crow everyone who thought aramis would hit higher than .200

oh wait we've only played for two weeks

Posted

It would be a shame to enjoy these two weeks too much.

I for one am glad Maddux stepped it up at the beginning of the season.

Well say what you want too, but my opinion is that he must have done something in the offseason.

he didn't put a string of outings like these together in a long time, even if its the beginning of the season and batters are still rusty.

Hopefully Z will get back on track prior and wood will return to form(healthy) and having maddux as a 4th would be tremendous

I had Maddux down for 86 pitches in the second game (got the numbers from ESPN, I think)...... but like you said, consistency is a beautiful thing !!

I might be reading way too much into this, but are you saying that he worked harder in the offseason (which was well-documented) or are you saying that he "did" something else?

His sinker and change were wicked last night. It was really unfair. But he got away with pitching in LA. The ball doesn't carry there. Pujols would have had a couple homers if the wind wasn't blowing in a week or so ago. I think Maddux is pitching well, but he has pitched under good conditions.

Maddux pitches to the conditions. The game vs the Reds at Wrigley the wind was howling out and he was still awesome. So saying he has pitched under good conditions is just wrong.

How so? The Cinci game was his worst of the year.

How so what? Saying the Cinci game was his worse start of the year, when he has an era of 1.33, doesnt make much since. Maddux hasnt had a "worse start" cause all of them have been awesome to start the year.

Just think if he would have cared enough in '04 to work out before the year. Two more wins we make the playoffs. I am glad he is doing well, but I hate he is only doing it in his contract year.

Of course, he did lead the pitching staff in innings pitched and tied with Z for most wins in '04.

He's had a HOF career and has been remarkably injury-free, and he's done that by sticking to his routines. I can understand why it took a season like '05, potential free agency and -- who knows? -- maybe even an upcoming 40th birthday to change that routine.
