And what makes you more of an expert than someone who has actually gone through this type of operation? Since I have also had this procedure done, I guess that means I don't know jack about it, either.

Well, I'm the guy that does this type of operation.

Hahahahah... OWNT..

LMAO. Best. Own. Ever.

Lesson for those hoping to own in the future

Note that the guy who used the rolly eyes didn't own - he got owned.

Rolly eyes do not insure an own. They may, however, lead to an owned.

I heard talk on the radio today that some in the media feel Wood is out of shape and carrying extra weight this spring training. I haven't got to see him yet and was just curious if people on this board could weigh-in with their thoughts?

Maybe Woody should have had a little liposuction too?

Looks like it went well:

"There's been no surprises," O'Neal said.

No surprises - just the way we like it.

Yes, but what does that really mean? If I'm expecting someone's head to be cut off and then it happens, I can safely say "there were no suprises."

This is a message board any one can say anything. I haven't ready anyone making declaritve statements about being a medical expert except for one person. Whether this person is actually a medical expert or not has not been demonstrated. If the person is, it is much better to edify then the criticize. When do they teach bedside manner in medical school anyway?

I think the people who posted about Wood's condition were attempting to give the best information that they could given what they know about wood's condition.

Enough with the owned crap.

And Sheets is better than Wood when both are healthy, anyway.

Can you please list numbers that show this?

Woody only wishes he has posted numbers like Sheets has the last two years.

Wood 2003: 14-11, 3.2 ERA, 133 ERA+, 1.19 WHIP, 2.66:1 K/BB Ratio

Sheets 2004: 12-14, 2.7, 154 ERA +, .98 WHIP, over 8:1 K/BB Ratio

Sheets 2005 (Nearly as good as Wood's 03), 10-9, 3.33 ERA, 127 ERA +, 1.07 WHIP, near 6:1 K/BB ratio.

I'd take Sheets over Woody in half a heartbeat.

I'll take Woody for the rest of his career over Sheets for the rest of his career if todays news that I heard is accurate.

The latest is that he will have his operation on Tuesday and then return to Arizona the same day. He says he will sit and throw, to keep his arm going. Signing his bloated payroll check twice a month can really put stress on a warrior.

Tim, I think the Cubs have not been truthful about injuries, etc.. Most clubs err on the conservative side and then the player normally returns prior to that date. The front office seems to be unable to tell the truth and has a bunker mentality towards the media and the fans.

Why do you act like he's happy to be just sitting on his ass, not pitching, competing, and picking up a paycheck?

Honestly CubbieRich, you have it out for him on a personal level. Did he still a girl from you in a previous life or something? I know he's being paid, and not performing to that paycheck, but it seems your dislike and hatred for him go above and beyond just a player who is oft-hurt.

Badger, my friend..looks like you're coming over to my side. I expect the highest paid pitcher of the Cubs to lead the team by his performance, very hard to do from the perpetual DL. After years of denying he has bad mechanics, he now admits that he has changed them this winter. Steve Stone is right again. Thank goodness this $12 million DL veteran will be somewhere else next year.

Are you moved yet? Have you found Mickey's Diner in St. Paul near the State Capitol? Hope everything is going well.

Here how's he suffering through his rehabs every year.

How much offense could that house buy?

Blame the Cubs then for signing him.

What in the world does that have to do with anything?

So because he has a big house, he doesn't care that's he's been hurt and less effective the last two years? How absolutely ridiculous.

I didn't say anything about anyone getting owned. One guy posted a smart-ass statement with that stupid  and tommyjohn, from his posts, clearly had a level of understanding beyond a laymen. Or he stayed in a Holiday Inn Express.

The guy who  did get owned, but that's ok, this is the first time I said it.

It's great that he only had to put off shoulder work for a day, but hopefully he's not pushing it:

Cubs.com[/url]"]MESA, Ariz. -- Chicago Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood did his long toss drills on Friday, and may be ahead of schedule after undergoing knee surgery earlier this week.

"It's pretty amazing," Wood said Friday. "It feels pretty good today, and today's better than yesterday. I expect the same tomorrow."

Wood, who underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder in late August, had a 20-minute procedure on Tuesday to repair a torn medial meniscus. Wood has two small sutures on each side of his right knee, and that's it. He doesn't have to wear a brace.

"[My knee] is a little tight, I've got a little swelling, but other than that, it doesn't bother me to walk," Wood said. "They gave me a cane to walk out of there with, and I didn't use it."

The only day he hasn't done any shoulder exercises was Tuesday, when he had the knee operation. Wood doesn't consider this a setback.

"No, I don't really," he said. "Mark [O'Neal, Cubs athletic trainer] told me today he didn't expect me to be where I was at until six, seven, eight days after surgery, so it looks like we're heading in the right direction."

That can't be right. We all know that Wood doesn't want to get better. He's not a leader. He just wants to sit around in a nice house and cash a huge check. [/sarcasm]

“Whether this person is actually a medical expert or not has not been demonstrated.”

True. Because when I disagreed with initial radio reports in that 4-6 weeks were conservative and 2 weeks would be more reasonable, well, I just pulled 2 weeks out of my ass and happened to get lucky. I love when that happens. I’ve been doing that my whole career.

“When do they teach bedside manner in medical school anyway?”

Oh, I didn’t realize anyone here was my patient. Can you post your address so I know where to send the bill too?

“I think the people who posted about Wood's condition were attempting to give the best information that they could given what they know about wood's condition.”

Yes, everyone on a baseball forum should be allowed to give medical advice and lecture on pathology, treatment, and prognosis. I think I might just send my patients here and let you take care of them. After all, I learned that:

- A knee surgery is a knee surgery. What, there are differences?

- Patients know more than their orthopaedic surgeons. Never mind the 4 years of undergrad, 4 years of med school, 5 years of residency, and 1 year of fellowship. This is my body.

- Most people and *especially* athletes don’t even have a meniscus. It’s kind of like an appendix. Or a thumb. You don’t *really* need it.

Truly an awesome post. I've greatly appreciated your contributions, even if others have doubted your ability to accurately diagnose this sort of injury.
