PEORIA, Ariz. -- Chicago Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood will have minor arthroscopic surgery on his right knee next week, general manager Jim Hendry said Friday.

Wood's surgery will take place Tuesday in Los Angeles.

The 28-year-old Wood had arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder Aug. 31 and was not expected to be ready for the start of this season. He's thrown off the mound a couple of times in spring training, testing his shoulder.

An All-Star in 2003, Wood was 3-4 with a 4.23 ERA in 21 games last year. He was slowed by injuries all season, missing about three months while going on the disabled list three times.

Are you FN kidding me? I'm not bashing Kerry so I don't want any of those "do you think he wants to get hurt?" replies...but seriously...what else can go wrong with this guy? Any idea how much further this sets him back?

What? Any idea what the cause or what the reason for the surgery is?

Who knows? With the patented Cubs Injury Information Release department censoring everything, it will remain a mystery for months.

Just unbelieveable.....

You gotta wonder if the PR department has a template drawn up where they just change the dates for his injuries.

What really seems funny about this is that Hendry did the talk show rounds Sunday and was quoted several times as saying Kerry looks and feels great, blah blah blah.

And now he needs knee surgery. That doesn't just happen overnight. Either he hurt it recently and there was no annoucement, or the Cubs knew all along he'd be behind schedule with his shoulder, and also knew he needed a knee scope, so they delayed it in order to mask the shoulder delay, to avoid being hammered for waiting to have his shoulder operated on last summer....

What a bloody mess. The Cubs really are a very misleading organization from top to bottom.

Or Kerry didn't tell anybody he was hurt. It's also entirely possible they're just going in and doing a clean out and he'll be back throwing in a week or two. Going in for a scope is nothing in this day and age.
