Cut off man cut off man cut off man cut off man........holy crap Dusty Baker should be screaming at his players because they don't play fundamentally. But no this idiot allows them to do whatever they want and now Lawton figures he'll do the same garbage cause Dusty doesn't care. My high school team could have beaten the Cubs if we were able to hit the pitching. The only difference between the Cubs and the high school teams are that they Cubs can hit a 95 mph and the Cubs can throw a 95 mph. This team is pathetic

I wouldnt go so far as to say Lawton's defensive lapse is due to Dusty. Lawton has never been a good defensive player. The Cubs knew what they were getting into when they picked him up.

Unfortunately, the Lawton trade is looking more and more like a mistake. Lawton is unlikely to be a Cub in 2006, while Gerut would have been a nice player to have next year, especially as a fourth outfielder and a left-handed bat off of the bench (even with his arbitration increased salary). The only bright side to all of this is the possibility that Lawton nets us a compensatory draft pick as a free agent.

Have to disagree with you on this one. Lawton came to the Cubs with the 2nd best OBP in the NL, while Gerut did nothing to disprove he is as worthless as Macias in his short stint in Chicago. I like the trade a lot and hopefully Lawton will perform well enough to warrant a signing in the off season.

Good for Carlos. I woulden't play for the Cubs with that outfield behind me.

Not to be cliche, but Z needs to play for the name on the front of the jersey and the guys behind him. So what if he doesn't like Dusty. This is just another in the long line of immature moves by Carlos.

There's an awful lot of you here apologizing for Carlos - I don't care what Baker does or what kind of defense is played behind a guy, you simply don't quit on your team like that and you take some personal pride in your own performance.

Carlos is a child in a man's body and I don't care if he pitches for the best manager and best pitching coach, if he doesn't grow up, he'll never be the pitcher he could be.

If I were his teammates and he walked out on me, I'd rip him a new one as soon as possible!!

If he was disgusted and pissed off, he should have gone into the clubhouse, screamed at the top of his lungs, tossed around a few chairs and then come back out.

If he really did quit on the team, that's worse than a little league play!

I'd make his butt go right back out there. Zambrano doesn't dictate crap!

That's a Pippen move.

it's most likely they took Z out of the game.

THose were some grueling innings. Sometimes 80 pitches isn't just 80 pitches.

They did not take him out. Did you see him give Rothschild the done sign? Larry looked at him incredulously as Zambrano stompped to the clubhouse! He left on his own and as he was walkig away, Larry went to tell Dusty. BS!!!! I've just lost a lot of respect for Carlos.

you never know. they might have told him they were taking him out.

i'm sure we'll know for sure tomorrow morning.

They didn't tell him that! My goodness, the camera showed him motioning he was done as he was walking into the the dugout. Rothschild went to talk to him for encouragement (as all pitching coaches do) and Carlos said "no" or something to that effect then walked into the clubhouse. You can tell by Larry's face that he was upset with Zambrano. I'm sure they expected him to go at least one more inning if not 2.. The Cubs don't have a day off until the 18th.

Zambrano stomped off. It was very apparent.

If Z really pulled himself out, it's a bush league move and representative of the fact that he isn't the professional we hoped he'd be at this point.

Regardless, it's also a sign that Baker is quickly losing this team.

david eckstein would slit his own wrists for his team.

I hope Carlos refuses to play for Dusty Baker again. That would make for a hell of a predicament for the front office. Keep your young incredible arm or keep your pathetic manager....oh wait that isn't a big predicament. Get rid of this sorry manager.

If Prior does it oo I'm sure that will be the end of Baker.

If Zambrano did indeed intentionally stick it to Baker, I wouldn't necessarily call it the end of Dusty. I am more willing to believe it would probably be the end of Zambrano (as a Cub).

another in the long line? what has he done this year since opening day that was "immature?"

nothing.

this is just showing your hate for zambrano because you're a card fan. at least it seems that way to me.

good im happy what Z did. The lineup tonight was an absolute joke and there's no way this team is coming back down 4 runs. Hopefully an 0-6 record in NY this year will be the beginning of the end of the Dusty Baker era.

If in fact he did quit why is that a reason to be happy? Would you be even happier if they all quit?

If Carlos did in reality quit, then his teammates aren't going to take too lightly to that. He's quitting on them too which could be a disaster. Personally I think they need to have a players only meeting and have Prior and Wood go to Hendry and say they don't want Dusty around if that is in fact what is happening here. Hendry would listen to them because he is building his entire job security on their arms.

innocent until proven guilty.

unless, of course, we're talking about taking sterroids.

Exactly. He should be suspended if he walked out on the team.

I've been saying that and only have been criticized when I have pointed that out. Not that Lawton is a bad player it's just that he wont make a difference.

and what available player would have?

I was against making a trade unless it was somebody we could use for the future because IMO even if we traded for Dunn we still wouldnt make the playoffs. In other words there was no point to make a trade just to make it like we did anyways.

Open revolt, harlots in the clubhouse, meth labs in the bullpen ... whatever it takes to get Baker canned, I'm all for it.

I don't hate Z. He's just a baby IMO. You're right in that he has been better this year.
