Wow, just wow, Santo I think has lost it.

I can't watch, did he say something or is he just generally downcast?

A fan was yelling below the box and could be caught on the mic. Ron says "I'm going to shoot that guy." :camper:

Yikes - well as others have pointed out, Ron Santo hates the Mets and hates New York, so being swept there in a most horrific fashion probably left him ready to punch the first person who says hello to him.

What I wouldn't pay to be a fly on the wall on the plane trip home to Chicago - I wouldn't have to worry about being swatted to death - I think our hitters would mostly swing and miss :-P

Seriously, he should just go to town on all of them. He's the greatest fan the Cubs have ever had. He's killing himself for this team and they're laying down for the second year in a row. he should throw an absolute fit. breaking things, pulling people's hair, spitting on them, who cares. Completely off the hook. What can they do? he's the greatest Cubs fan and he should be a Hall of Famer and he has no legs.

Go to town, Ronnie.

I can just picture Ronnie exploding on the team bus. Slapping Aramis and telling him to keep his head in the game...

In all honesty, my guess is he's too disgusted to do much more than get teary eyed at how disappointing 2005 has been.

The '05 Cubs, playing like they're late for their next round of golf!

Can't imagine this team folding at the end of July.

Isolating blame to one sector of the team doesn't do justice to the others who deserve blame as well.

Has Mr OBP Matt Lawton managed to work a pitcher to a full count as a Cub yet?

Lawton was never the answer. He was a mild upgrade asked to be a spark, with everyone expecting nomar and wood getting back to be the real spark.

Of course Nomar sitting kills any spark he might bring, and wood in the bullpen isn't exactly awe inspiring...

That's too bad, because Ron Santo is the one guy that could actually go nuts about this team on the air, in public, on the bus, on the plane, wherever, and people would listen. he's Ron Santo. People love Ron Santo. The Trib can't just run Ron out of town like they did with Steve Stone.

I didn't expect him to be the spark however, I thought he might work the pitcher a little more Hairston and Patterson. But putting on that Cub uniform, playing for Dusty Baker, means you swing at anything and everything I guess. 3 AB - 3 pitches

He's already gotten away with much more than Stoney ever could just today.

"Worst baseball playing I have EVER seen in all my years...." or something to that regard.

yeah, but that's just being general. he could call out people by name, call out the coach, the GM, etc. he can say everything we've been saying and it would actually mean something.

For me, the most frustrating aspect of this game: Watching Victor Zambrano get away with several hanging breaking balls to Lee and Ramirez while listening to Miller and Morgan talk him up as if he was more than an average pitcher.

Every team has a baby or two.

*cough* Jim Edmonds *cough*

Edmonds may look like a baby to the umps and opposing teams, but he treats his teammates and fans with respect.

Jason Marquis and Julian Tavarez are the requisite babies on the Cards.
