Is it possible that Hendry noticed how well the Braves are playing with 10 rookies on their roster and decided to inject some life into this team?

Its about time that somebody in the organization finally took notice because we have been hollering about this for quite some time.

I am excited to see Murton. Remember Cabrera and Andruw Jones...I think he has similar hitting talent to those guys....we shall see if he can make the jump....Greenberg doesn't make sense to me though. Cpatt needs to be humbled....Dubois....well, he isn't going to improve as a fielder at this point so leave him up as a pinch hitter G hill type.

Unless this is just the beginning, it seems that all this move will accomplish is waste Murton's time, possibly hurt his development and trade value, and completely wreck CPatt's psyche (or whatever was left).

Thus, there has to be more to this.

One would hope.

Yes, I'm sure Bruce is very busy but if he is lurking and has any time, his opinion would be very much appreciated.

I found this quote from Baker on the ESPN.com story: "We're getting them up here to play," Baker said. "Maybe they can give us a spark."

And this one from Hendry, referring to the Braves: "You don't have to look any farther than across the way to see what can happen under these circumstances," Hendry said. "It's something we have struggled with for a fairly long time."

Take Baker's quote for what it's worth, but I found it surprising. It may be Hendry putting his foot down.

I'm not surprised to see Jim compare the situation to Atlanta's, but they've have numerous opportunities to "throw rookies into the fire" and have been quite reluctant to do so. I guess time will tell if Murton actually gets some starts...

Of course, if by some rare chance Murton is going to start on a regular basis, why wouldn't they let Dubois?

Dubois on being sent down:

"I've got to go down there and work and try to get back here as fast as I can," Dubois said. "It's not a bad thing -- it may be a good thing. I haven't been playing as good as I want to. I'll get some [at-bats], and hopefully get back."

"It's real tough to get timing when you haven't seen a pitch in eight, nine days, and you get that one opportunity to do the best you can," Dubois said. "Sometimes you screw yourself in the ground because you try too hard. You try to make everything happen on every swing you take. That's what's been happening. I've been going downhill. I think this will help it out."

Corey on being sent down:

Patterson declined to talk to reporters after Thursday's game.

I believe that those two quotes shows you the difference in maturity level between Dubois and Patterson. Dubois is looking at it half-full, and WANTS to improve his game to get back to Chicago, whereas Corey Patterson is looking at it half-empty, and he prolly feels he doesn't "deserve" to be sent to AAA. I honestly believe Corey is in AAA for quite awhile, to be honest, or he won't be with the organization after the trade deadline. His attitude, right now, STINKS to high heavens.

ok im confused.

And to your point, he is nothing like Jones or Cabrera.

At all.

C'mon. The guy just got sent down -- he might not have even known about it yet. How do you know his attitude is terrible? Because he didn't want to talk about getting demoted. Gimme a break. You ever get dressed down at work? Would you want to talk the media about it?

Why does everything that Corey says or does get dissected to the nth degree? Give it a rest.

i believe it shows you the difference in how you want to perceive these two players. patterson's been in the bigs for years, and he's just been given a pretty embarrassing demotion. what do you expect out of the guy?

i bet he didn't sign autographs outside afterwards either. someone call the trib.

I think its funny how every nobody in chicago thinks they know what Corey's attitude is because they watch the games on TV. you do not know the person. MAYBE if you knew him you would know his attitude to baseball, but you don't so stop speculating everyone. It is really lame

This better be the beginning of the kids getting a chance to play. Cedeno, Murton, and Greenburg better get at-bats on a regular basis. Otherwise this is a complete waste, and I'll have lost even more respect for this organization.

I lost all faith in the current regime when Cedeno was called up to not play. I see no reason why Hendry/Baker would treat Murton and Greenberg any differently.

And if that's the case, this is a complete waste of time and I hope the Tribune decides to bring in some other people to run this team.

Man...I dunno what to say...Trade? Minors? Patterson? My heart skiped a beat.

This sucks...I don't know if I can sleep now. I know I'll miss Corey if he gets traded...

And Dubois? WTF is going on here...

So who takes Murton and Greenburg's spot at AA? Who goes to the AA all star game in place of Murton unless he's sent back down?

...To make room at Iowa for Patterson and Dubois, first baseman Micah Hoffpauir has been sent to double-A and the I-Cubs have released outfielder Trenidad Hubbard. Link

I don't know about the all-star game.

Is Murton going to be LF and Greenburg CF then? Makes no sense to bring them up to play behind Hairston and Hollandsworth.

Haven't read all the posts. But with 3 all-star-days off, Corey needs to only be down for 7 games. I wouldn't be at all surprised if this isn't just a 7-day thing for him.

Greenberg, in the interm, can watch, ala Fontenot in his couple of callups.

Dusty doesn't need to puzzle over lineup past midnight, Hairston plays center and leads off, no double thinking about it.

If Lee is healthy and starting, Murton takes the Dubois role of resting Holly or Burnitz when Dusty thinks his veteran starting corners need rest (which shouldn't be often, especaillywith 3-day break coming.)

If Lee is not healthy and misses some time, Corey or Dubois can be recalled if Lee gets DL'd. If Lee isn't DL'd but misses games, perhaps Murton will play left with Holly at 1B. Or else Walker will play 1B, opening infield starts for Macias or Cedeno.

There's no reason to think this is any long-term thing, just another of the series of "try something" moves to get Corey untracked. Certainly Dusty isn't going to play Greenberg ahead of Hairston, or Murton ahead of Hollandsworth or Burnitz.

I wish that Corey and Jason had been sent down to West Tenn to work with Von Joshua, my favorite hitting coach in the system. It would have been an easy swap of 2 OF's for 2 OF's, too.
