Well they had quite possibly the craziest head coach stolen right out from under them situations ever.

Boston / NY being the underlying fan bases adds quite a bit

but yeah. It’s a division rival. Maybe not the national reputation of Bears packers or Steelers ravens but it’s a rivalry

Agreed. But, it's probably tough to be a recognizable rivalry when they've never been good at the same time. In fact, outside of Joe Namath, it's hard to recognize a time the Jets were good. The same can be said of anything outside of Brady and New England. Although I can see the Boston hope for Maye, but he's having a rough go of it this season.

True, but same can be said about the Bears since the 80s. It may be hard to remember and was definitely weird but since moving here in the 90s I was well aware of the jets strangely being good for the Parcells era (conference finals) part of Herm Edwards (multiple playoffs) and early Rex Ryan (two conference finals). They’ve more or less sucked ever since. 7 win seasons are their upside. 5 seasons with fewer than 5 wins.

Bears have two more playoff appearances since 90, one less conf finals appearance and one more Super Bowl appearance. Chicago hasn’t been good and people still recognize a rivalry.

Major PTSD kicking in. Also, I can’t look at the score until about 1pm due to band practice. It’s either going to be: 1) yeah baby!, 2) get home immediately it’s close!, or 3) I’m getting too old for this crap, man.

Any tips for a Bears fan heading to Lambeau for the first time?

Here’s a practical tip: parking sucks. Park further away from the stadium and walk in. If you park really close you will get trapped in a sea of cars trying to get out.

Inbreeding is known to cause cognitive decline down through the generations, so when you meet the locals speak slowly and try to stick to words with three syllables or less. Also, be prepared for a little confusion at first when talking to a male local. Often, within the span of a few minutes, they may switch between such words as wife, sister or cousin while talking about the same female.

Also keep in mind this is all they have in life. Literally nothing else. You drive 30 minutes in any direction and it’s corn and soy beans.

Same applies when attending Cubs/Cardinals in St Louis

Ditka deserves an untold amount of horsefeathers for anything politically-related he's ever said/done, but he also deserves credit for the '85 Bears.

Yeah his coaching style wouldn’t have worked today either IMO. But damn it I was a teenager when the Bears won the Super Bowl and were good each year. Those were glorious days. I remember that time fondly.

Sad day. I loved him as a kid and as I got older, realized he was gifted an amazingly talented roster moreso than anything else.

I give him credit for writing that letter to Halas to get the job.

Regardless of my disagreements with him, I'll remember his charisma first and foremost.

RIP to an absolute legend. His whole persona became a whole out-of-control thing after him, but he did one absolutely huge thing: he won a horsefeathers god damn championship for Chicago. Can't ever take that away.

Also I feel like his hall of fame career as a tight end gets minimized. Dude revolutionized the position.
