It was a pop up that landed 2" fair about 15-20' from the monster.  Taylor slid for it to avoid colliding with the side wall and just missed.

With a switch hitter coming up I don’t understand the move to Theilbar. Is Rutchman that much worse right handed? If he is, I get it. But I still think I would rather have had Holmes versus a left handed Rutchman instead of Theilbar versus a right handed hitting Rutchman.

He's significantly worse against LHP. 121 wRC v 70 wRC this year

Right now Holmes frustrated me the most among our starters. I hate pitchers nibbling and throwing a lot of pitches and walking a lot of guys. So for me any starter would aggravate me less.

I'm hesitant to react based solely on the numbers but the Red Sox xBA is under .200 for the game so I'm guessing Holmes' didn't give up a lot of hard contact. I'd like more Ks, but 10/2 GB/FB ratio is going to play in front of this defense.

But this is what frustrates me about him. He does give up weak contact and a horsefeathers ton of grounders. Which, of course I love. But throw horsefeathers strikes.

absolutely ridiculous that by the end of the cubs' games today (assuming game 2 of the DH happens), the cubs will have one game left in the season while the padres have three. what a HUGE advantage for the padres to know where the cubs can max out at when they still have three games left.

Agreed.  The walks early were a problem but that inning he just got BABIPed.  Ground ball where guys weren't, a pop up that probably is caught in 95% of other parks, and the Thielbar ground ball wasn't exactly scalded either.

Again, speaking just to the box score. But 78 pitches, 50 strikes is 64%, which is I believe right in line with the league wide average.
