Conforto has been a solid bench bat.  What do we think happened to Tucker?  He was terrific last year before the ASB.  We now have almost a season and a half of him being just an all-around ****** player.  I doubt it's injury or age, can it all just be dispassion for the game?  He must think he plays slot corner for the Bears or something 🤪

Either way it's a godsend he went into the crapper last year and we didn't sign him.  Before the ASB I would have totally been in favor of giving him 8-10 years and huge money.  What a nightmare that would have been.

I agree, so you'd think the Dodgers would protect him and keep him on the IR as long as necessary.  Instead, they made a big show about sitting him at home games a while back because it was messing with his psyche. Why they would admit that is beyond me.  Just give him a phantom injury and let him go away for a while.  

Just a strange and costly situation that I'm thrilled isn't our problem anymore.

Aging for hitters is a tricky thing, and it's only gotten worse in the last 10 or so years. Some slight decline in bat-speed can be the difference between being an All-Star and being a marginal MLB player. MLB pitchers are simply insane with velocity these days that there's very little room for a managed, gradual decline. More often than not, it's a complete drop in performance. 

It may just be that for Tucker, between infinitesmal drops in athleticism + injury.

Contrary to popular belief, pitchers who throw hard tend to age the best.  The idea is that dropping from e.g. 97 to 94 still leaves you with above average velo, and maybe you've picked up some command or another pitch to compensate.  When you go from 92 to 89 it takes almost supernatural levels of command and deception to stay viable.

I suspect that as we get more data on bat speed we'll learn a similar lesson.  Tucker wasn't an insane athlete to begin with, more of a good athlete with ++ skill.  So I do wonder if he's to your point hit like an inflection point where a small loss of explosiveness (his bat speed is down almost 1 MPH) is having an exponential effect on his performance.

He's also CLEARLY pressing so some of this is not permanent and will fade once his confidence is back.

I always want to see a pitcher throw under 20 pitches an inning. Preferably around 15. Gets him thru 6 at 90 pitches.
