• Offense: 1st in baseball, 93 offensive runs above average, the next best time is at 61. 
• Defense: 1st in baseball, 44 runs above average, next best is 16. 
• Pitching: 29th in fWAR, 3.6 fWAR today, ahead of the Nationals by only 0.1. Basically a bad Boyd start away from being the worst. But hey, in August we're only the 4th worst pitching team in baseball, so...positive steps!

Nice. He threw his last pitch of the season in June and will finish the season with the most war on the pitching staff. Way to end the road trip on a high note.

Kevin Gausman has pitched 23 innings for the Cubs this year. He's 4th on the staff in fWAR.

Just be happy they added Holmes and Guasman. If they were part of the staff all year, and Holmes was healthy, their rotation would look nearly as bad as it does. I still like the rotation going into the playoffs. 
Also, with Ben not being an option, I wonder if they increased the odds of Wiggins being added.

It's got to be pretty high. I went and got myself riled up about the fact that we're on pace to be the 3rd best offensive group in the last ten years but the reason we're fighting for home field advantage in the play in game is that we're inconsistent or whatever. Then you factor in that teams that have elite talent on one side of the ball usually manage to put together some sort of production on the other side.

If they have any sort of an offseason,  i just hope Hoyer puts his big boy pants on and goes out and brings in some quality arms for the rotation,  either thru trades or FA.

Right now they have more question marks with guys returning from injuries then they have settled into a spot.

Steele,  coming off of elbow surgery 

Cabrera, coming off a down year

Brown,  unsure with the neck/vertebrae injury

Assad 

Garrett, coming back from elbow surgery 

Wicks,  not good

Horton,  likely out til August 

Wiggins 

Holmes, you hope can get extended or picks up his option

Rodriguez has a 4.61 xERA and a 4.4- xFIP, somehow he’s still this effective 157 innings in. He’s Assad on steroids.
