People forget he wasn't just hitting 50-60 bombs, he had 100-160 RBIs, batted over .300, OPS was over 1.000 4 straight years, almost a 5th .993.  

He was insanely awesome 

I’d say only 2001 was a historic year though.  PCA should pass all those others years easily.

I'm not saying that you specifically need to adjust for era, but most metrics are going to. Sosa had a 159 wRC in 1998, PCA has a 157 at the moment. The league average OPS in 1998 was .755, it's currently .720.

PCA is at 7.9 fWAR right now, which is more than any single player put up in 2016. Obviously, WAR can go in both directions, so he has to keep going.

Are you saying the 2016 defense graded out better by the metrics?  If so, that's wild.  Also, there's almost 2 months left so this team could conceivably get close to 35 fWAR.
