It will be interesting to see if the reliever that they have who strikes a lot of people out is included . His name starts with a Zeferjahn ?

I would totally pitch Cabrera out of the pen. There's easily 4 better starters and you can argue Assad is on his level. His stuff out of the pen - just throwing sinkers, changes, and sliders- would be nasty.

Curious who the headliner is.  If we really did this for Kepley/Ayers 🙏

The only name that would irk me is Ramirez.  Detmers fills a huge spot in the rotation and gives the Cubs flexibility in the offseason when Boyd and Shota are FAs.  I'm good with them overpaying.

Scared to see the return but like the pick up.

Will be interesting to see the rotation if the best case scenario for returning pitchers happens:

Boyd
Imanaga
Detmers
Gausman
Brown
Cabrera
Peterson
Rea

Absolutely first world problems to have and given our injuries this year unlikely that it actually happens that perfectly, but still, will be interesting.

Guessing Peterson and Rea to the pen at a minimum.  Then maybe a 5.5 man rotation (5 man rotation with a 6th started added in there on occasion depending on schedule, with that person working LR outings in between).

And then there's next season.  Looking at something like Steele, Brown, Cabrera, Detmers and a FA?  Maybe Gausman has a Cole Hamels like run in Chicago and signs up for another season.

I legitimately wonder if Rea gets dealt in the next few hours.  He's #8 in the pecking order (and that's assuming Brown is 100% a reliever here out).  You would rather give that roster spot to a more legitimate short reliever and let Assad/Peterson be your depth.

Yeah, it'll be interesting.  I don't know if Detmers and Gausman will be better than Boyd/Shota, but at least close.  If Peterson keeps pitching like he has lately, I'd take him over Cabrera.  Heck, I might like Assad over Cabrera in the rotation, unless he proves me wrong.  If we have Ben, Assad and Cabrera in the pen, that's an upgrade.  A good problem to have.

FWIW these sorts of situations are usually just quibbling over the definition of "done" unless Bob Nightengale is involved

The only thing that gives me pause is medicals, because that's usually what muddles these deals at the last minute.

I think this might be the case. There is so much happening.
