It would be ironic if we won the Peterson/Rea starts but lost the Boyd/Shota starts

That would also suck but that would be so baseball.  The Cards are going through one of those hitting funks I guess all teams do right now.  ours seem to last longer though don't they.

Dustin May is the opposite of McGreevy. His FIP and xStats don’t match his inflated ERA.

....should we get him?

He's a guy I'd be concerned about hitting a wall because of innings.  He threw 132 last year but before that hadn't thrown more than 56 ever in his MLB career and was out all of 2024.

I think the Cardinals are just regressing to who they really are....probably better than pre season expectations, but still not a seriou playoff contender

I’d be underwhelmed when there’s better arms available. He benefits from pitcher friendly Busch and gives up a lot of hard contact from what I’ve seen, not to mention what mul pointed out.

Yeah he's certainly not at the top of my list. But he's probably a Colin Rea upgrade that could be had for pocket change.

Not anti-Dustin May, but would probably prioritize others. There's some bad luck (the LOB% is way too low). There's some good luck (he's just not giving up any home runs at home, but on the road is pretty normal to his career). There's some weird in that he's giving up a lot of hard contact, not a lot of barrels but he's not a groundball merchant, so the EV isn't really explained away. Then you have the "how much does he have in the tank" based on his innings over his career.

If you told me he was the 2nd best SP you got, and you were super cool transitioning him into the bullpen in the playoffs I'd be a-okay. But if you told me it's Dustin May or, like, Clay Holmes (false equivalency, but whatever) I'd side with Holmes because I think he's just better with the Cubs defense.

Is Shota going to get another 1 year contract?

Shota will probably sign a 2~3 year deal somewhere else, unless he really wants to stay.  If the Cubs offer him a 2yr deal, he'd probably stay.  I don't think the Cubs will do it, though.
