I'm still rolling with Suzuki.  I don't forget the bomb he hit of Mis in the playoffs last year.  That guy is still in there somewhere.  I have a vague memory of him crashing hard into the right field wall a few weeks back.  Wonder if he's dealing with something.

1/30 from our 3-6 hitters since Sunday. Team slug is currently at 384, the league average is 392. 7 straight losses at wrigley, most since August of 2021.

Whatever left Suzuki, I don’t think it’s coming back.  At least not without a change of scenery.  I’d be for a trade.

If they're still hovering around 500 and chasing just a WC spot at the deadline, it probably would be best to see what they can get for guys that are going to be FA after the season.  Hell, they should see if they can unload Swanson somewhere.

I don’t care how many pitchers are healthy, you are not winning baseball games batting a player of as poor quality as Suzuki in the major leagues.

Hes not the only one to point fingers at though, most of their lineup have been hitting poorly most of the season.

This is interesting, didn't realize how much of an affect he had between them winning and losing.

He’s our only middle of the order bat with a wRC+ 130 and slug. That makes all the sense in the world. Bregmans singles, Suzukis groundouts and Busch’s singles and walks don’t quite pack the same punch.

Suzuki has always had these month long stretches where he looks terrible. He had a 33 wRC+ in June of 2023 and a 71 in May of 24. He couldn’t air last August either. This is who he is. He’ll bounce back at some point.

There was a point early this past offseason when everyone was discussing the forthcoming roster cliff, since Seiya, Happ, and Taillon (among others) were going to be free agents after this year.

I'm not feeling so worried about that any more.

Everyone screaming for Alcantara (and his overall 33.5% K rate) to take Happ's spot a month ago just reshuffling their grievance papers and moving on to wanting Alcantara (and his overall 33.5% K rate) to take Suzuki's spot, having clearly learned something from the last time.

Also, not at all weird brewers circle jerk there in the Cubs/A's game thread last night. Super normal.

Its wild to think about the money in future contracts they’ve lit on fire this year. Complete opposite of turning it up in a walk year lol.

They are our nemesis and they are doing things way better than we are. They traded a bunch of scraps for a guy who is on pace for 6 fwar. He put up another dominating start last night, while we scratched one run across and fell to 6.5 games behind them.

To make matters worse they have the top prospect in the game and arguably the best overall farm. They actually have major prospects ready to take over at all of their weak positions. I said it before this year, I think 2026 is our last chance to take the division for a while. They pulled off the dual front thing we espoused for so long.

I think it's kind of normal to talk about our rivals and it's easy to envy the way they do business. They are lapping us in player evaluation and development, and beating the brakes off of us with a minuscule payroll compared to ours, for 7-8 years now.

I'm not going to nitpick the particulars of your points (major prospects ready to take over all of their weak positions, particularly). Overall, your point is valid about how well they've been doing things for a couple years now. I think this board, on all sides of the spectrum, would have had a collective aneurysm about trading someone like Freddy Peralta in a contending window, especially for a 25 year old starter with a current 5.81 ERA in 70 career MLB innings and a fringe-y defensive CF with 400 PAs of below average AAA production. Then again, people want to dump good players after a below average month, so who knows.

It's June 3rd. I watched people horsefeathers on an eventual 92 win team all year last year, and worship at the altar of the Brewers, and then watched us get to a deciding game 5 with them. No, we didn't win. But to think we're light years behind on a go forward basis is just being negative for the sake of being negative, and this endless praising of any other team, much less the one in our division, just seems...sad? Makes me prefer the pixie dust talk of 10-15 years ago.

At this point screw the Brewers and baseball, I'm done wasting rooting interest in the Cubs.  Stanley Cup finals started last night, NBA finals tonight, after these, can't wait for football and college BB.  We'll have the Bears who are at least as good as the Packers, if not, better.  And the Illini (college BB) who >>>> than Wisconsin.  I also have the PLL on the weekends along with me playing in an old man' lacrosse league on Monday nights.  I suspect there are some golfers amongst us and summer golf leagues have fired up.

It's a correlation not equaling causation. You can likely do that for all the starting players.

As an example:

PCA in wins: .306/.382/.512

PCA in losses: .167/.265/.245

Seiya in wins: .283/.391/.500

Seiya in losses: .190/.244/.262

Yeah, in many ways it's a self fulfilling prophecy. It's a lot easier to win when your players play well.

this is a wild take.  he’s been an above average hitter 4 out of his 5 seasons here and was an above average hitter this season as recently as a 4-5 weeks ago.  He’s in a brutal slump, like Happ and Busch were earlier in the year.  However I do think he’s playing his way out of Chicago and the Cubs aren’t going to resign him.

If we had total faith that the team was run by a great FO and the replacement for Peralta would be fine, I doubt there would be a collective meltdown.

Yes it’s June 3.  I don’t think it’s unreasonable to be upset.
