Out of curiosity, do you, as a Cubs fan, dislike the Cardinals or Brewers more? I assume most of you dislike the Cardinals the most, but I'm curious.

That answer probably depends on someones age right? Like yeah the Cardinals have had good seasons recently too, but other than 2015, St Louis and the Cubs haven’t really been good at the same time. If you’re under 25, the Brewers have been dunking on the Cubs for a greater portion of your life than anybody else.

For me, Brewers. The peak era of Cubs success began in 2015 and since 2018, the Brewers are constant pests with overlapping success. The Cubs just sucked during the peak of the cardinals rivalry and was rooted in tradition more than the Cardinals being an October roadblock to anywhere near the degree of Milwaukee.

It was also easier to rationalize the Cardinals success with players like Pujols, Rollen, Edmonds, Wainwright etc than a team that pumps out 90+ wins every season with an 82 win roster on paper, adding to the frustration. That and the Packers connection.

We have a 16+ ERA pitcher going and Vegas has us as slight favorites??!!!!

Fanduel has the Cardinals a slight favorite. -116, Cubs -102. Cardinals also slight favorites on draftkings and bet 365.

In a season where most everything has gone wrong for the Cubs it'd be awfully nice if Wicks could step up.  If he string together several good appearances maybe, with Boyd' and Cabrera' returns. Taillon could be shot into the Sun?

That would be incredible. Undoetunalty pretty unlikely. As it is, one good thing that came out of all the injuries is Brown looks like a  near TOR starter. If Boyd and Cabrera come back healthy and pitching like last year at least they have 3 quality starters. Got to get Shota back to early season form and then trade for a starter.

When you think about it this may be it for Wicks.  He'll never have a better opportunity, if can't take advantage of this situation the Cubs may be done with him.

Since my Cubs Fandom started in late 70s, and dealt with them birds in the 80s, my total dislike leans more towards the Cardinals.

Brewers are just a more recent annoyance and dislike but nit as deep and as much as the Cardinals.

I don’t think so. There are still excuses that could be used for Wixks pitching poorly. He is still coming back from an injury. If he pitches poorly I can see them sending him back to Iowa and finishing out the year there. There is no real harm in keeping him around the entire season to see if/when he is completely healthy, what he can do. I admit the leash is getting shorter, but I tbink he will be around a bit longer.

Final line for Matthew Boyd in his rehab start with the @IowaCubs in Indianapolis today: 4 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K. 63 pitches. 41 for strikes.

Be interesting to see if they give him 1 more start this week before bringing him back, if so, then that will mean 1 more start for Wicks on Saturday.

I agree. Cardinals have been an issue much longer as they are the Cubs #1 rivalry in the game, IMO.

And 2 of the runs he gave up came after he left the game. He gave up back to back singles to start the 5th and was taken out. Both those runners scored.

They might be done with him as a starter for now, but they have 4 more years of control with him, they might just see if he can give them anything from the bullpen going forward.

4 of the next 5 opponent SPs are lefties, so hopefully Alcantara gets a little bit of run.

It's Counsell, so it's more likely that Kelly/Amaya DH while the other catches

Boyd is way too fragile and we’re in way too rough of shape right now. This can be wicks last start, if he finds something, wonderful, we’d actually have a multi-inning reliever for the first time in like a month.
