I love how Sutcliffe is acting like the presence of Hoby Milner warming up is some strike of strategic genius.  Like yes its great to have a guy like him there to hurt a Sheets PH but he’s acting like it’s a brilliant strategy no one could have accounted for

counsell is the first manager to bring in a lefty reliever to face a lefty batter. 5D chess.

It’s early but this is a huge win.  Great finish to the RT and the (depleted) pen came up big when we needed it.

This team can be GREAT when PCA is good at the plate.

I have always been a huge Ben Brown critic - glad he put me in my place! Great team W!!
Taillon pitched a phenomenal game and just hats off to a combined effort and victory - .500 west coast road trip is a great way to head back to the Friendly Confines!
Keep it rolling

Same. I did not think he would make it in the big leagues.  He was so money today.

And he ended up facing Laureano, who hits lefties well. I mean, Counsell got the match up he knew he would get. SD manager also got the match up he wanted. I was always either going to be Brown against Sheets or Milner against Laureano.

I think he wanted to minimize the slug chance, and Milner against Laureano is better in that regard than Brown against Sheets.

Is Milner against Laureano minimizing the slug chances compared to Sheets against Brown? I would have to see actual stats to back that statement up before agreeing. I think it is more likely a manager playing a hunch and managing based on his gut decision. I would think the difference in slug for either matchup is negligible.

Kinda strange to be thrilled about a .500 record over a six game stretch, but here we are.

When you are .250 over the first 4 gamas, .500 feels like a huge win

Finishing the month 19-12 from a 7-9 start is an excellent stretch of Baseball when it included Mets, Phillies, Dodgers and Padres.

He was probably 8 beers deep at that point

I do wish Sut would tone it down. He doesn’t need to make it sound like every run scored is the greatest run scored in history and he doesn’t need to say stuff like “He’s done that his entire” when a career bench player comes intro a game and makes a good play in the field. I am sure he means well, but he exaggerates a lot.

3-3 against two really good teams on the road with a bull pen on life support is really solid.

Gotta give this team props, being 7 games over .500 with the biblical pitching injuries they have had is pretty damn impressive.

I mean there's a 70% chance the dude was horsefeathers faced.

Back when things weren't looking too good, they had just dropped 2 of 3 from the Pirates, sitting in last place at 7-8, and about to face 4 pretty good teams at the time in their next 16 games.

I had mentioned they needed to go at least 8-8 and just stay afloat and not get into a hole early in the division,  well they more then exceeded that expectation and went off winning 12 of 16 and are just half game out of first.

Bats have come around and they have gotten some good pitching for the most part,  hopefully they can keep it rolling this weekend and into the series against the Reds where they get ahead of them and take over first.
