I look forward to getting some sort of strange, obscure cancer from attending a Bears game in an abandoned steel mill

Sounds like a perfect opportunity to get another new stadium after 20 years

For many people who go to Bears games Hammond is just as close to them as Arlington Heights.

Based on Bears own statements (and a basic density/wealth population map would support this logically), the majority of fans will travel much further to get to Hammond.

I still don’t believe them

Nobody does, which is why I assume this is a last ditch effort to build some leverage.  Maybe if they REALLY start the process of moving to Indiana, then they will force someone into action to keep them in Illinois.  It may or may not work.  If it doesn't work, they may very well end up in Indiana even though they don't actually want to be there.

If they are still selling out all the games, do they really care though?

No. And if the season ticket waiting list goes from 30 years to 15, also no.

But in a bad year, it will be interesting to see. Traditionally a cold as hell SF has done a decent dent keeping away fans from investing in a bad team at seasons end. I honestly don't know what a bad team in a dome in a dumpy hard to get to area does, but it might be worse.

Also there are some simple economic issues with the NWI deal. Some of the new slew of taxes do hit the Bears indirectly (like amusement taxes). Sold out stadium with same revenue? Not so sure that's the case.

Of course ring wing media is running crazy with the idea of Bears leaving deep blue Illinois for deep Red Indiana, etc. etc.

Oh you can't touch the political discourse on this. It's all stupid. Darren Bailey made a post that state should make Bears rebuild Arlington Racetrack lmao

I'm surprised the downstate GOP isn't crowing more about killing the PILOT bill as a multi-billion dollar giveaway to DEI woke public housing developers.

This just feels like upping the leverage meter to the red.

I'll laugh my ass off if they build a stadium in the hell hole, toxic dump that is Hammond IN. That would be the most epic fail in NFL history forever. I already decided a few years ago that I've gone to my last NFL game, so I really don't care what stadium they play in while I watch on TV.

Not to get this to be too political, but it is very funny the GOP is making shoveling hundreds of millions of dollars to a billionaire family (with almost nothing in return!) as a huge political "win" for them

If Pritz was worried about losing the election over this he would have pushed to work with the Bears. This is a last ditch bluff by the Bears

Of course. I'll believe they're actually moving to Indiana when they actually put a shovel in dirt, not a second earlier. And maybe not even then!

Yep.  If they were serious the AH land would already be on the market. There are entirely too many unknowns about Hammond for anyone to actually take them seriously at this point.  The millions (billions?) they're costing themselves by continuing to delay construction because of the incompetence is inexcusable too.  This stadium is going to cost $3 billion by the time they get around to building it instead of the $500-750 million it would have cost if they started 2 years ago like they should have.

What happened to Arlington heights?

Illinois won't give them the handouts they want. And they absolutely shouldn't.

How do you lose money owning an NFL team? Sell the team then.

So maybe fire Kevin Warren the guy who put you in this position

Even if the Bears are your only source of income, how can you be broke owning an NFL team?

There's no way they're broke. At absolute worst, maybe they're cash flow constrained. But even that would be difficult to accomplish, even for bumbling McCaskeys.

Can you grow tomatoes in that soil?

Perhaps a better question: should you eat tomatoes grown in that soil?
