If the distain for Shaw is because he left the team in a playoff race it does matter. If you are questioning his character and desire to win and using him going to that funeral as a reason to question him than my example absolutely holds water. Even leaving politics out of it, if a player left a team for a funeral for a friend, would he get this much scrutiny if the friend wasn’t as much an ass hole as Kirk was. I doubt he would.
As for every other criticism of Shaw, I am right with most here. I don’t agree with his beliefs, at all. I agree with you that he is in a cult. He is very misguided and misinformed and follows a man who preached division and hatred.

Let’s be real, that wasn't a funeral it was a Christian nationalist rally. Whether Shaw personally shares Charlie Kirk’s most extreme views is almost beside the point, you don’t skip work during a pennant race to fly across the country for a 'casual friend.'

If Kirk were just some anonymous neighbor Shaw texted occasionally, there’s no way he’s missing games for him. By choosing to be a visible part of that event, Shaw effectively endorsed Kirk’s platform, which includes the normalization of hate toward marginalized groups. You can't separate the player from the politics when the player chooses the politics over the team.

It was a lot of things, but it was also a memorial service.  It's understandable for people hating on Shaw in this political climate because of some of the terrible views of Kirk that Shaw likely also shares, but Shaw only missed one game to attend the funeral.  Given your head and heart probably isn't 100% in the game when your friend just got murdered I don't think it's a big deal, so i'm giving him a break on this one.

Shaw was listed on a poster as a speaker at another one of their events they've done since, so I don't give him a break on this one.

If he was a carpenter he never would’ve been asked. They are grifters and Star horsefeathers. In their world a rookie baseball player is a star. Anything they can do to get attention is what they will do. His willingness to go along with it makes him complicit and you can go horsefeathers yourself too.

I agree he is being used. And he is too dumb to realize it. He is in a cult. Period.

Curious, so Shaw bad for associating with Kirk, then is the entire cubs organization and players that are Shaw's friends on the team bad for associating with him?

I see Shaw being compared to Hitler and everything evil like Kirk was, so does his teammates and people in the organization that are his friends get hated too?

I’ve seen exactly no one compare Shaw (or Kirk) to Hitler

So the nonstop Nazi comments show no association?

Hitler was a Nazi, but not every Nazi was Hitler

I hope that helps

First of all everyone is free to love or hate whoever they want to. So you can judge your own tolerance. Next, just because players associate with Shaw or even have the same “Christian  values” does not mean they follow a person who promotes division, racism, sexism and hate. I am sure there are players whose views are different than mine. But when you put yourself in the center of a group like Kirk’s you should expect there will be people speaking out against you.

What makes it worse is Kirk was a conman grifter, who may have not believed all the hate he spewed.  Money was and is the ultimate goal it's disappointing Shaw can't or doesn't want to see the truth.

Gee whiz shut up and talk baseball

Generally I agree with this. But there are several other threads that have baseball talk. So if you don’t like this one don’t go into it. Read something else. I doubt anyone is going to this thread to see Nico updates. Pretty sure we covered that and most feel Nico isn’t going anywhere. So if you come here this is what you should expect. Don’t want to talk about it, move on.

You should expect political garbage in a Nico Hoerner thread when there's an entire political forum on this website? Interesting take.

That's a lot different than a friend being murdered.  I give him a break for missing a game for a friend's funeral, not for his association with these nutjobs.

I can go eff myself because I think its ok for someone to miss a game for a friend's funeral while condemning the views of Kirk and Shaw?  This somehow makes me a bad person lol?  Once again you're unhinged.  All you want to do is hate, so have at it.

No context arguments are the best arguments. Look, all I said was that piece of Halibut was good enough for Jehovah.
