Rosenthal: the Cubs remain "in the mix" with Bichette and Bregman.

Full article here

If the Blue Jays really are more focused on Tucker, the game of musical chairs for Bregman and Bichette does seem to favor the Cubs more here. Enough to get one? Well...

One aspect I haven't seen anyone really highlight is Bichette's willingness to move to 3B.

I assume this isn't much of a sticking point; money talks.

All part of negotiation.  "Put it out there that X team interested to get Y to cough up more dough"

Theres no way I would pay that dude 300. Extend Nico.

That is obviously a 10+ year number. When you suggest extending Nico what are you assuming he would want?
Also, remember that is just a number thrown out. Doesn’t mean he gets it. He might get 8/$224. Or if he does get to $300M maybe it is heavily deferred. I think I would take him at 8/$224.

No way I see us winning a bidding war with the Phillies.  First raise - we will fold not call.

Im not sure about Nico. Feels like the league/market would value him around 6/140-150? The bat is good but his carrying tools dont tend to get major deals.

Idk, I guess I could live with 8/225 for Bichette. I kind of feel like he will eventually settle for a little less.

The Phillies' outfield is probably the worst position group on any good team.  There are not enough "Sure, Jan" gifs in the world for how skeptical I am of this report they're suddenly hot after Bichette.

Maybe Turner to the outfield?🤷Didnt he play there a few years? Otherwise, I agree that they need help there. Not in the infield.!

Yeah, as someone who also follows the Phillies, it's a big pain point for the fanbase. Their front office seems content to let Marsh and Adolis Garcia get a hefty amount of at bats and Justin Crawford get a crack at CF. They still need to unload Castellanos and bring in a catcher. I suppose the thinking there could be they sign Bichette and move Turner to the outfield. Or they sign him and trade Bohm for a catcher, since it's unlikely they'd have money for both Realmuto and Bichette.

Agree, I just don't think we end up with any of the guys the media has said we're "in" on:

Bregman/Tuck/Belly/Bichette are all 30ish and all have injury concerns. The only other guy no one is paying too much attention to is Suarez. Older, but durable and cheaper. I could see it happening. Wouldn't thrill me, but I could absolutely see it happening.

I’m not sure they do either. But I do believe they are more in on them than just that phone call to them to ask them if they drop to give the Cubs a call. And if there ever was a year to get someone like Bregman or Bichette, this would be the year. However, about a week or so ago I came to the same conclusion you are at now. Cubs very well could end up with Suarez. He just feels like that guy who drops. I don’t like it either. But the team does have a patten.

Not good indeed....Phils will probably sign him. It's kinda what they do. Their ownership group will spend and spend freely. As I said before, I think we end up with Suarez. Tuck/Breg/Belly/Bo are all 30ish and have been more and more nicked up as they age. Suarez is older but durable and a true 3rd bagger. Just wish he was younger.

Unless the Phillies are moving Turner to center I don’t see them with Bichette. They need outfielders. This was posted a few days back. Bottom line is if the Cubs really want him or Bregman they can sign them. Money shouldn’t be an issue. They have plenty and can sign anyone.

What I read is they would move Harper back to the OF . They have said earlier in the offseason Harper wasn’t moving but to fit Bichette , I could see it . They may need to trade Castellanos before as well

Absolutely. He's simply NOT worth that kinda money and there is zero chance Jud and Tom cough it up. Pivot to Suarez I say.

Yeah, Nick is a full time DH these days. Guy is immobile and really regressed last season. Showing his age. He's in the last year of his deal BTW.
