Eat a dick Wayne Larrivee*

*he’s so much better than Bears radio guy

I can’t stand Larrivee mostly because he sucked doing Bulls games on WGN back in the day and I hated that he bailed on the Bears PBP job for the Packers, though I get that he grew up a Packers fan and that was his dream job.

Hard disagree. Joniak isn't the best play by play in football or anything, but I'll take his energy and passion over Larrivee any day of the week

Not sure if it will be popular here, but I have to say Tom Brady is pretty good in the broadcast booth. Hated him as a player, but respected what he accomplished. Thought for sure I'd despise him as a color commentator.

Huh, you think so?  I really like Joniak.

Brady for so much better in a short time. Hated him early in his career as a color guy. I really like him now. He knows what he is talking about and actually praises players when they make a good play. Also gets excited. He did a good job Saturday.

Joniak is awful. I’ve had to listen to a lot of Bears games while driving this year. He is incapable of informing a non viewing listener about what is happening on the field. It’s crazy to me that this guy does radio play by play. He’s lost. You’d think the intonation of his voice would suggest whether a play was good or bad for the Bears. Nope. Going for it on first down, you’ll have to wait for him to digest the result of the play and try and come up with an explanation before you have any idea if the offensive team made it. He spends more time trying to come up with the iceman cometh lines than actually describing plays on the field

I was driving during Weeks 2-4 and it was brutal knowing what was going on during pivotal plays. The end of the half play vs Detroit (that was completely called incorrectly FWIW) he was at a loss of what was even happening.

When I was a kid my dad would often play the Bears radio play by play over a muted tv. My guess is if you do that now you might like the guy for his homerism, but with streaming and lagging you probably can’t do that all that well.

Sirius XM. The car just airs the local broadcast but the app can get you the specific team. I’ve driven through all or part of most Sunday games this season.

I think football is much tougher to listen to and follow than baseball on the radio.

Baseball is the perfect sport for radio broadcasts.

Joniak and Larivee both suck though

Wasn’t a fan of his call to end the Packers game. TBH, the national guys were way more excited about that play then Joniak.

Swift very clearly down with ball, ball is torn out, officiating incompetence initially calls it fumble, call is corrected, Larrive - Bears' dodged a bullet.  Yeah, that's what happened.

I really started following the bears in earnest in 2001, which happened to be Joniak’s first year on PBP, so he is the voice of the Bears to me. I’ve never had a hard time following the action with the radio call, but then again it wasn’t until the Bulls moved Neil Funk from radio to TV that I realized how many mistakes he made, so for all I know Joniak is doing the same thing.

I honestly didn’t know Larrivee’s roots were the Packers so it felt like betrayal at the time.  I always liked his play-by-play.  He’s better than Joniak but I’d rather have a worse guy who actually likes the team and isn’t pretending for a paycheck.  These local football broadcasts are better when they are biased and cheesy.  Just my opinion.  Larrivee is better.  Joniak is my choice.

Lololol. He’s like Ron Santo doing pbp for the Cubs. He gets excited and forgets down and distance. I love listening to him, but he’s so bad it’s good.

Appears the Bears are almost certainly looking at the Packers in the first round.  Other than wanting the game to be at Soldier Field, I'm okay with Green Bay being the opponent.  Despite what happened yesterday, I still viewed the Lions as the more potent offense, not to take anything away from the Packers.  In comparison, Packers' defense >> Lions' defense but, it's the Lions' offensive potential that had me concerned.

I want it in SF of course but yeah, we have to beat this team and if that means another game in the playoffs so be it.

Competence would be nice. Doesn’t help that Thayer can’t complete a coherent sentence

Thayer is there to scream incoherently in either joy or dismay while it takes Joniak several seconds to explain what’s going on after the fact
