I think the question for the Cubs is whether the 3rd year is the sticking point or whether the issue is committing these healthy AAVs before the SP has been figured out.

I'll admit - I'm a big no-go on the 3rd year on Suarez myself. You could get me into Williams on a third year, I could get into a 2+1 on Helsley. I don't like Suarez as an ager.

Not upset because of Suarez . I am upset about Williams . 5 years younger than Suarez and signed for only 3 with deferrals .  On top of that , his preference was to sign with the Cubs .

I guess I can take it if they end up with Imai and to a lesser degree King . If they end up with Gallen however , I will punch Hoyer in the face

I think with looking to add a couple pitchers and probably bench depth, Hoyer only looking to add one guy with a salary of 15-20 mil and that will likely be used on a SP, and then spread the remaining of whatever cutoff he wants to be at under the Threshold on the rest.

Remember, we have to save about 30 mil for in season trades that Jed will later claim were too steep in price to finalize.

Ultimately, Jed is a greedy little dude--don't like him one bit and the direction he's taking the team.

And the Sox have a problem with this too--they don't pay their players enough. There should be stricter regulation in regards to that.

In which way would we consider Jed to be "greedy"? This is an...interesting way to explain it.

Sorry to transpose my... governmental inclinations towards baseball, but I think that all owners, presidents, etc. should be Delanoed--I'll explain my own term later.

Honestly, the dude's a greedy, yellow, capitalistic individual. He has "confidence" in Shaw and other rookie dudes but doesn't have confidence in his own consistency. He's fluid and doesn't understand our history in the sense that he... I don't know. It's just a vibes thing, I guess.

When I refer to the notion of "Delanoing," I refer to the necessity of regulation or a sort of socially-imposed "standard pay" based on merit--a meritocratic system that should be followed by the Cubs. It's fiscally progressive, but it probably ensures loyalty and the willingness to work harder and be a more integral member of the team.

Currently, the government in Quebec (Canada) is imposing the same thing upon the medical profession, but based on quantity, not merit. I find a similarity between that and the Cubs--they look at quantity and stats, but they do not see the curve in terms of the future. The Quebec government is facing instability and strikes. The Cubs are facing instability and betrayal (Schwarbs?!)

Can we get Leiter instead?

That's a better choice... Build for 2032.

We focus on short-term greatness for long-term detriments.

Looks at fangraphs vFA 88 mph, shakes head

I like this? Submarine RP with negative arm angle. Lots of horizontal movement. Big GB% guy. 106 stuff+. The fastball velo is horsefeathers but you get that with his arm angle.

It's not as good as LHH Taylor Rogers but it's not far from it.

Let's hope they get that SP figured out before all of the other quality free agents put pen to paper.

Milner should be cheap enough for them to still be in on another veteran Lefty arm like Pomeranz, Newcomb, Chafin.

@grassbassIt would be interesting to see you and Carter fight this one out.

I want to say that I don't want to compromise our contemporary team indefinitely in order to achieve a sort of utopia in the long term that is somewhat intangible.

In other words, I'm not trying to make us lose. I'm not a Cardinal in disguise. 🙂

But what I do want is for there to be a balance. 29-30 should be the max that we should sign. It's too dangerous for older individuals to be signed at this point, even if they are good. We won't win the World Series next year; I think we'll arrive at the same point. That's just me, and it's hard to predict, but I think that we'll win again in the next 10 years.

True.

Let me ask you--what is your vision for the Cubs to approach the World Series next year?

Signing is one year late. I predicted him last year. But it is an ok signing. Obviously this is a small move. We need more

I don't need to fight this one out with anybody. The Cubs do have the financial resources to both win now and in the future. Our horrible owners are the reason people like you think we need to choose.
