Certainly looks like Maye has proven to be the better pick, since both he and Caleb were taken 1/3 and into a similarly bad team, now both with brand new HC regimes.  The similarities between the scenarios into which each QB was placed are enough to make me think that the analysis is all but over.  Maye is better.

One thing we know is when a GM misses on the QB pick they aren’t long for the job.  Unfortunately the Bears decided to re-up this clown so now we’re stuck with him.

A fine mess we are in.  Anyone surprised?  The one hope is that BJ is good enough to rise above but there is a lot of drag that will hold him down.

The Poles extension may end up being the most consequential thing out of all of this. He’s had 4 offseasons to put together this team, drafts, free agency, trades, and the talent is simply deficient. There simply aren’t enough good, above average or star level players on this team.

I'm still not mad about not taking Maye.  Don't listen to what people will tell you in hindsight.  I'm convinced that 32/32 GMs would have taken Caleb 1.01.  That said, the reports about him basically not doing any due diligence on any of the other QBs is concerning in general.

Whether Maye, Daniels or whomever is better than Caleb is irrelevant.  The question is will Caleb improve?

I would bet millions of dollars that it was not 32/32

Progression isn't linear and making that statement off a half a season is pointless.

There was defintiely love for Maye among many. So there was always an argument for his skillset and reasonable bets as to him being the better pro.  That matters little right now though.  It's "can Caleb get there" which is still being answered.

Dayo Odeyingbo with 1 sack and is PFF’s 93/118 ranked Edge Rusher. Another Ryan Poles miss.

It’s probably going to be much quicker to list the picks he’s hit on. There’s less of those.

He should probably just trade all of his picks for established players and stay away from Free Agency as well as the draft.

The Jarrett contract looks like a bust through next year also.

Trading for Claypool is his masterpiece. By design he knew he’d have top 35 pick by blowing up the roster and if Claypool is worth a damn then you win a meaningless game and you’re stuck with the 3rd pick and no haul from the Panthers. Good thing after years of pissing away picks on Tyler Scott Velus Jones and 1 year rental Keenan Allen he said screw it and used 2 top 10 picks and pick 39 on pass catchers in the last 2 drafts. It’s also noteworthy his QB2 from the 24 draft was McCarthy.

I will admit my opinions right now are colored by the disappointment of last week.  I'm trying to trust the process here but it's difficult when I see guys like Maye doing much much better.  I get that it's all about Caleb getting there and not about Maye necessarily, but seeing the "other guy" progress much faster is naturally frustrating.

Caleb is just now learning how to play QB. In college, he played high school/sandlot QB, and it served him well. If he can't learn the mechanics to be an accurate short to intermediate passer, he's not going to make it. It's not about talent as much as it is about repetition.

This and playing on time, trusting the process, all of the good QB's play on time and trust the process.  When necessary some of them can resort to high school/sandlot ball and those are the plays everyone remembers but, on most plays, it's trusting the process and executing.  Although infrequently, we've seen Caleb play on time and trust the process, when it has occurred they're pretty hard to stop.

I was implying that Nix has been good, because he has. The Bears weren't reaching on him at #1. Only Daniels and Maye would have been in that conversation. But, if we're putting them in tiers based on where they are right now, it's this:

Tier 1: Daniels and Maye

Tier 2: Williams and Nix

Tier 3: Penix

Tier 4: McCarthy

Maye is MVP worthy so far this year.

Shemar Turner is out for the season. Jarrett has been an absolute bust. Poles probably could not have done much worse over his first 4 years.

He is living off the trade of the #1 pick in 2023. The rest is mostly horsefeathers

Sunday was insanely disappointing and borderline unacceptable but I feel like sometimes people miss the fact that the Bears are, you know, a winning team (as of right now)

I go crazy on Sundays and lose my mind but it’s good to remember that this team is not like, terrible. Maybe when we look back at the end of the season it will be, but it isn’t right now! Let’s not just assume they’re going to repeat the 10 game losing streak last year.

They win the next game, and they’re right back on track. The sky isn’t falling dudes,

Getting Ben Johnson was huge too, but I don’t think even BJ can fix Caleb

They’ve won 4 of their last 7

9 of their last 24

16 of 41

19 of 58

And they are likely to lose at least six more games this year, if not 8+.
The man in charge of putting the team together has done a really bad job. That’s not sky is falling that’s just fact.

Just read that the Bears are signing Chauncey Gardner Johnson. Ugh. I have never been a fan.

Given the state of the secondary, I think it’s worth a shot.

Yeah it’s unfortunately a “beggars can’t be choosers” situation in the defensive backfield. We just need bodies.

but it won’t help our campaign against penalties

CJGJ,  Tyrique and Brisker all together could be lethal
