"Who needs prospects?" is a weird takeaway from watching this Blue Jays squad

Bieber, who the conversation was about, was up for grabs at the deadline and he was traded for a prospect outside the top 100. Jed could have gotten involved as we needed a starter. He didn’t.

My post wasn’t implying that prospects aren’t important.

But how else would we wet ourselves with excitement over all our A ball prospects if they start getting traded away.

Not to mention we can't ruin the 2032 Cubs

Bieber was traded for a prospect who was ranked #79 on Eric Logenhagen's top-100. So that's not true. It's true that he wasn't a consensus top-100 prospect. I will also point out that I think Jaxon Wiggins is a better prospect before I made my next statement, but the closest proxy to the pitcher dealt for Beiber in the Cubs system is Wiggins.

The Jays didn't get him for free. You can make an argument he went for one of the highest per start prices of any pitcher dealt.

Yesavage is fun to watch.

Why do I get the feeling he is hitting his career peak this post season? Not that I think he is going to under perform going forward, just that he is never going to be better in a more important setting.

I guess no one imagined Snell would still be in the game 100 pitchers later after his first 3. Then again, the joys of having an 18 inning game only two days again.

Sadly it wouldn't be the first time.  Ian Anderson comes to mind.

I have no stats right now in front of me, but does Smith suck as a catcher or does he just suck tonight?

It’s definitely more that LA has no faith in its pen outside of Sasaki. The Brewers offense wasn’t good enough to get into the pen. Roberts probably pitches Snell the same way tonight even if Glasnow had gone all 9 and they didn’t need the pen at all on Monday.

For such a powerful lineup as the Dodgers apparently have, there is a steep drop off after Ohtani, Smith, Betts and Freeman.

Toronto have played this series so well after the heartbreak of losing Game 3. Massive to lead 3-2 with the next 2 at home.

Go Blue Jays!  Isn't it pretty crazy?  The young dude, Yesavage pitched only a few games in the Major, before the playoffs.  The Dodgers offense has been quiet.  Their bullpen kind of sucks, just like their regular season, except for Sasaki.

The past two years the Dodgers did this "build the whole pitching staff out of uber talented uber fragile players" gambit.  Last year it blew up in their faces and they won the world series anyway.  This year the stars aligned and everyone but Scott and Yates entered October healthy and it looks like they're going to fall short.

As a loud and proud "playoffs are a crapshoot" guy it still feels a little too on the nose.

Cubs would have beaten LA

I'm not sure we had the pitching. I mean baseball gonna baseball sometimes so you never know. I do think we would have done better than Milwaukee because our offense would have done a better job of getting into their bullpen.

Last year, the Dodgers had only one good SP, Yamamoto, but they had good bullpen.  Ohtani (and Judge for that matter) didn't do horsefeathers in the world series last year, but the Dodgers won.  This year, they have crazy good SP rotation, and still losing, at least for now.  I'm hoping the Jays will beat LA on Friday.

Bieber pitched his first game of the season on Aug 22, and coming back from TJS.  He was an unknown.  Hindsight = 20/20.

That’s fair.
Cubs definitely need a starter though, so hopefully Jed makes a trade for one in a few months.
