My analysis of the game is it’s impossible to take anything from a preseason football game so it was just nice to see the Bears uniforms on my TV again.

I went to the game, left towards end of the 3rd quarter.  It was hot. It also wad nice to take my kids to a game without meatball drunks in every aisle.

Also Bagent should not be the #2 QB come regular season

100% agree on Bagent.  Love his approach to football but the NFL level ability isn't there.  At least Keenum has starter experience, 2 seasons of 3,000+ yards, a career positive TD/INT ratio and a career 60+% completion percentage.  He's the guy you want filling in.

I am still nervous when I hear these reports that Caleb still looks uncomfortable in the pocket and is struggling to make quick reads and get the ball out. Isn’t that QB101 stuff?

Co-nervous.  It just seems like the buzz is still bad around him.

Although I will say there were things I saw last year I liked, and he put up solid stats for a dysfunctional team.  I think maybe he is a Baker Mayfield type, who has moxie but needs to be schemed into success.  We'll see.

I feel like there are 2 parts to processing: pre-snap and post-snap.  Pre-snap can likely be fixed with good coaching and repetition.  Post-snap is harder to fix.  But if he can be able to read a defense prior to the snap, the post-snap processing will maybe limit his ceiling a bit but his physical gifts will still allow him to be a very good QB IMO.    Josh Allen was criticized quite a bit his first 2 years for having slow processing time but obviously managed to become an elite QB.  Cam Newton also struggled to go through progressions for much of his career but his speed and size allowed him to overcome a lot of that and become an effective QB.

It's not a great sign if Caleb is struggling to go through progressions, late on reads, etc but there's a reason he was the 1st overall pick, he has elite traits that could allow him to overcome this if it continues to be an issue.

I'm not really reading much into anything preseason anyways, he's basically going through boot camp trying other erase everything he learned as a rookie and trying to run what is a pretty complex offense.  Unlike Nagy and Eberflus, it doesn't seem like they are trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, Ben Johnson has stated repeatedly that the offense is being build around Caleb's strengths and based on his track record I trust that he will follow through on that.

I'm not going to be worried about Caleb until game 5 or 6 this year.  If he's not looking like he's figuring it out by then, panic may start to set in, but when you considering he's learning an entirely new offense (again) under a coach who's demanding and runs a relatively complex system, I think you have to be pretty patient to start the season.

“Per Wickersham, Payton "loved" Williams's arm at USC, but "worried a little about his processing speed" and saw "too many easy completions left on the field, open receivers that Williams fails to spot quickly." Payton has a formula that weighs negative plays, which Williams had a higher number on than either Nix or No. 2 pick Jayden Daniels. Additionally, Wickersham detailed that Payton questioned how Williams would handle failure.“

So horsefeathers absurd how negative everything is on Caleb. Guy has a good, not great, rookie season which broke just about every rookie Bear QB record and you'd think he was ready to wash out of the league.

I mean dude you can't bring up breaking bears rookie qb records as a flex. His rating and QBR were bad, his advanced stats were bad. He took an ungodly amount of sacks because he couldn't process defenses quick enough. If you look at it objectively its easy to see why people are concerned. What did he show that resembled a generational talent, honestly? Getting outplayed by 2 QBs drafted after you doesn't help at all either.

Im in full agreeance with mul21. It's a complex system and it could be rough for a few weeks. He has that excuse built-in if it is indeed the case. He will get a pass to an extent. But there are a lot of flaws in his game that will be under major scrutiny.

I never said he did show anything like this, I said people need to stop acting like he's ready to wash out of the league after an acceptable rookie season.

I’m not seeing people acting like he’s ready to wash out, I’m seeing people expressing concern he’s on a similar path to Mitch and Justin, who are still gainfully employed.

Can't dismiss the terrible route spacing Waldron deployed. QB school ripped them apart all year long. Ben has talked about grilling him in play action when he turns his head around to let it rip, but I doubt he'll ever be a sub 3 second TTT passer. Hope Ozzy takes the next steps to solidify LT.

I fall back on the fact that Ben Johnson was one of the most in demand 1st time head coaching candidates ever, had teams backing up a brinks truck to sign him, and he chose to be bound to Caleb Williams.  It's not like he just went on Caleb's pedigree.  He surely did his homework and saw Caleb live twice last year.

(ignore the part where Ben Johnson was rumored to not sign with the Commanders because he insisted on Sam Howell being his QB and passing on Jayden Daniels)

But when you get that label and your GM falls over himself to make the pick, you are expected to be a lot more than acceptable. People aren't saying hes gonna wash out but hes showing traits that cast doubt on whether he will be an elite franchise QB.

All starters playing in preseason game 2 on SNF

Probably 1st quarter and then that's it. My guess

Or 1st series

I'm going with "into the second quarter".  Then he'll either play 1 series in the 3rd game or not at all.

I always read that as a sour grapes rumor circulated by the Commanders' PR team, in fairness to Ben Johnson.
