They'll just call up another 4 random prospects who will somehow combine for 15 fWAR over the course of the 2026 season.

They don't even have to be prospects. Just random 5'5'', 28 yo guys with names generated by AI like Isaac Collins. Who has put up like 3 rWAR in a half a season's worth of games.

Are we not going to have Horton for the playoffs? Is he going to get shut down?

We shall see.....he's at 79 innings at big league level after today and 38 innings in the minors for a total of 117 so it's gonna get interesting. I'd imagine Tallion and Assad will take some pressure off him and get some starts at some point soon hopefully. I THINK I read on here that he pitched 151 innings in the minors in 2023 so time will tell but he's been fantastic so I think they'll be conservative frankly.

Yeah just figure out how to limit his innings or whatever they gotta do. We need him bigly for the playoffs or we're hosed.

There was a longtime poster here named Fred Hornkhol who didn't swear, but used "horsefeathers" instead. When he passed away (sadly, before the Cubs won the WS), we changed the curse filter in his honor

Took my son to his first Wrigley game today (7th ballpark).

The look he had when the Cubs won and he sang along to "Go Cubs Go" matched the look on Christmas morning as he runs in to see the tree.

2017 dodgers 52-9 stretch in 2017 I can’t imagine any team tops that historically, at least post integration.in a 61 games span.

Cubs 49-19 stretch from late July 2015-game 4 of the LCS has to their modern era high mark.

The Rockies 30-84 record with a -316 run differential through 114 games is the real history being made.

I'd imagine they'd want to use Horton to try to win the division and then take their chances in the playoffs even without him.  He could get hurt at any moment anyways, so might as well use him until they decide to shut him down.

This rotation is so frail.  The last 2 months might be a sh*t show for the rotation.  Id be happy with an average era these 2 months.  Here's hoping Assad comes back ok, we need him if Horton and/or Boyd are shut down or there's another injury.

So they stole that nonsense from the Cardinals? cool.

Horton has barely pitched 250 innings combined with his senior year through today. He's far short of 150 IP in any single season.

This is what the Cubs say.   However, to be frank, the ability of teams to prevent pitching injuries these days is absolutely atrocious.  The Cubs ability to prevent guys like Steele and Alzolay etc needing TJS shows they have no idea what they're doing on this front.

Supposedly, one of Zombro's specialty was injury prevention in pitching.  Hell, was he consulted when they picked Soroka?  Because I agree with you that dip in velocity was a huge red flag for everyone who read about it!!

Maybe the Mets can win a game in Milwaukee.  It makes no sense how the Brewers are doing this. The Tebow reference was accurate.

Also, Bob Uuecker must be pulling strings from the front row in the great beyond

You mean the Mets, who are 2-8 and in a 4 game losing streak can beat the Brewers? Is it just me who thinks this or is it reality, but to me every time the Brewers do actually face a good team it seems they are playing bad when the Brewers face them. And basically the opposite for the Cubs. White Sox were playing well right after the break, Red Sox won 10 in a row. I even think th Orioles had won 6 of 8 or maybe even had a 4 game winning streak before coming to Chicago. Meanwhile when the Mets played the Dodgers the Dodgers were slumping. Now they got the Mets.

Miami came to Milwaukee hot and took 2/3. But yes, seems like the Brewers catch good teams when cold

And as you said, Miami was hot. And what did they do? They beat the Brewers 2 of 3. Brewers are good. I know that. I was one of the first to point out they scared me, back when they were 6 back. But they are also catching some breaks in scheduling. That is why I am just focusing on the Cubs winning and not worrying so much about the Brewers. It actually might not be a terrible thing for them to just win the division easily. Cubs can focus on getting the right pitchers healthy for the playoffs instead of using them up to try winning the division. Of course, I say that, then want the Cubs  to sweep the Brewers in a 5 game series and win the division. So as you see, I am conflicted….

Miami is currently the second hottest team (!) in baseball behind the Brewers.

Helps explain why they didn't unload Alcantara or Cabrera.

I was watching the Braves Brewers game last night and the insanity of their hot streak is just mind blowing.  The last 41 games they're 32-9 and have picked up 8 games on the Cubs, meaning the Cubs went 24-17.  The Cubs have played at nearly a 95 win pace over their last 41 games and LOST 8 games in the standings.  I can't be too upset about it at this point and just trust that regression to the mean happens for them too.
