Poor Ballesteros, the kid is stuck in Iowa

He needs to improve at catcher. I get it. Wont be surprised to see Suzuki traded this offseason to open up DH for Mo, Cassie or Alcantara.

With Orioles in town does anyone think, given his numbers thus far, the price tag of Morton was exceedingly high?  Or did Jed view Morton as not an improvement over Rea, Brown and soon to be back Tallion/Assad?  I think many of us would have OK with Morton being one of the acquisitions yesterday.

I had been, then saw his horrible July. I think the bad start and July kind of scared teams into thinking he's dead.

Busch with the rare start against LHP. In a world with Castro, if they think Busch can at least tread water (or Happ/tucker can slot in), might not be much room left for Turner. I think he’s fine for what he is going forward, but also wondering if Amaya, Moises, Castro, and Alcantara is the better October bench.

I think Turner will be here all season. Seems like Jed loves his vet presence in the clubhouse. Not saying I agree with it but I dont see him being DFAed even though  I 100% agree with you.

I think you're much more likely to see Hap traded than Seiya simply because the best options to fill that hole in the lineup are LH and this team is already weaker against LHP than RHP.

Could be. I'm not convinced Happ will waive his no trade though. He seems to love Chicago. Id be open to trading either one. I think Happ has been a great Cub and when hes gone ill miss him but its time to move on.

All the Iowa kids are stuck, idk why Hoyer wont trade them if he isnt going to play them.

I've been wondering about Long, instead of Alcantara. Seems like the more ready big league hitter. We get 2 extra roster spots right? (So one additional bench and 1 arm). Let's say they keep Turner for his veteran leadership, they could throw out a righty lineup against LHP looking like:

Suzuki - Castro - Tucker

Shaw - Dansby - Hoerner - Long - Kelly

Turner

Now, probably some arguments to be made if Long (Alcantara) are big league ready enough to take ABs away from Busch against lefties in general (Likely not) or if a RH batting Happ should start in LF and Suzuki just DH over Turner (Probably starting Happ TBH). CC would have options anyways against LHP.

Edit: I realized you're probably talking about playoff roster and I'm talking about regular season once rosters increase in Sept. Which in theory, should help CC determine the playoff bench.

I take Rodgers doesn’t have crazy lefty righty splits?

Over his career he has been worse against RHP. In 2023 he was much worse, last year split neutral in that he was bad against everyone and this year in SSS worse against RHP.

To be honest, i can see the value of insane success at AAA for a long time, even though the MLB is a different animal. I agree with you though. Its driving me insane.

Interesting choice in Busch with the way CC operates.

My only supposition is Hoyer might also think he has a better chance of landing a top tier SP in the offseason when teams in contention might be more willing to deal, much like with Tucker and the Astros last season, and that could ease the asks on guys like Gore and Ryan if, say, a team like the Reds were willing to listen on offers involving Lodolo (hypothetical).

I'm not thrilled with that supposition, but that's all I got right now.

I think Zuki will be first to get traded, with Happ likely getting moved at 2026 deadline, depending on how season is going.

Both on final year of contract, easier to get them to waive NTC if theres zero interest in extending them

I feel same about his presence, but I keep waiting for him to go on that long IL stint.

This and the possibility of not resigning Tucker, plus the possibility of trading both or one of Happ/Suzuki, a little easier to get them to waive NTC in final year especially if theres zero interest in extending.

Maybe its just because the orange stands out but it always seems like there are a lot of Orioles fans when they come to Wrigley.
