Does Jed try to right his 2017 wrong and deal for Verlander? Lol

Possibly, I mentioned that yesterday in one of the other 54 deadline threads

Interesting, but he's been kind of meh this year? Guess they believe he'll come back around.

I'm guessing Parades out for the rest of the season probably factored into it even though its obviously a longer term commitment.

You know the old saying, if you truly love something with a degenerative ankle issue, let it go, because man, it can't walk far with that kind of a limp.

Rationally, I know this. And as long as rentals like Kelly, Gallen, Cease, Morton etc are still around the Cubs do have fallbacks. I just don’t understand what would make the price of a controlled pitcher go down. Why would the Marlins, Twins or Nationals lower their price on a guy they can just keep and trade next year? I think the price is set. Do the Cubs want to pay it. Period.

The only explanation I tell myself is that maybe the hold up is that the trading team is waiting til closer to the end to see if any interested team will up their offer and if not then decide which offer is enough to say yes to or like you say to just pull the player and hold them.

Which means we could see teams in that last hour pull their offers and move on to their plan B-C-D cause they don't want to wait and risk losing plan B too.

He's a stud.  Great bat.  He's a plug and play DH with upside as a catcher.  Wish the Cubs had a spot for him but they are already very lefty heavy.

I remember when the Cubs had a kid who had a bat that was too good to wait for his defense. Eventually, they gave up on him and, I think, he plays for Philly now. He was better than Ballesteros by a lot.

I don’t believe the Astros can possibly offer more than the Cubs for any of those guys considering they just traded for Correa.

So the Twins are trading everything not nailed down and every team that had a need at 3B has I believe filled it.

If we don't get Castro I'm going to be so annoyed

Like there is legit no reason not to land Castro outside of the scouts just really hating something about his game.

Do the Cubs have another prospect named Horton? If not, the Cubs don't trade Cade Horton for Gore.

I think Jason explained why Horton could be in a Gore deal perfectly several pages ago. If Horton can only give the Cubs maybe 30 innings the rest of this year, as an example, he could make sense being traded for Gore.

Your username certainly checks out...I go into a deep depression whenever anyone reminds me how we just let Schwarbs go for nothing....brutal

Blue Jays have a big need at 3b

I like Gore and am not as high on Horton as some,  but I do not want to include him in that trade. So much team control, and he already has shown value.

Since the Twins just about unloaded everyone else, might as well let the Cubs have Ryan and Castro now....

Current Minnesota Twins players under contract for next year:

— Byron Buxton

— Pablo Lopez
