Expect a weird one today.  Heat index will likely be close to 100 during the game (and possibly hotter on the field), so don't be surprised to see the bench and bullpen on both sides get a workout due to cramps/dehydration.

8 days until the trade deadline and the biggest name dealt so far has been Bryan Baker. That really just seems crazy to me and frankly it's really boring, but I have no idea how to fix it. If you push back the deadline a couple weeks you only get rentals for 6 weeks which seems like nothing. You move up the deadline then you have even more undecided teams and perhaps even less happening with trades. They're never going to get rid of the 100 WC slots now, so maybe this is just how it works now with the trade deadline being like NFL FA where all the action is in a 48 hour period. It just kind of ruins what was one of the most fun times of the year.

I think this weekend's results will start to push teams one way or another.  Teams like the Cards who are playing the Padres this weekend will essentially be out of it if they don't do well and I'm sure pretty much every team in that position is having preliminary talks to lay groundwork.  I'd bet we see some deals Monday and things really pick up from there.

I do think they need to bring back the waiver deadline.  That allowed teams to be creative with getting players and kept a late injury from completely crippling a team with World Series aspirations.  Maybe make it August 15th instead of the 31st.

Devers is clearly the biggest name dealt. But granted, it was early and about things other than the typical deadline shenanigans.

Yep, unless your willing to overpay for someone, teams, whether they believe they have a legit shot or not in mid July will just hold onto their top trade assets in hope for that big bidding war at the deadline.

Interesting article on sprint speed and how Buxton and Turner reign supreme still somehow despite many players dramatically declining over the years.

Much has changed in 10 years. MLB's fastest players haven't https://share.google/AT1V4GsY5ScAgotcR

Did anyone know Betts is now 37th percentile? We think Happ's decline is notable, but that seems insane to me.

Injuries has alot to do with some of these declines

According to what forecast? I see no rain all day.

We just had a bit rain up in Evanston.  🤷‍♂️

This kind of heat/humidity can sometimes breed pop-up thunderstorms.

No Tucker today. Foul ball last night. Will be back Friday.

While he had an excellent at bat in last night' game leading to run, for the most part, of late, he's been terrible.  A couple of days off will probably help.
