Nice he got out of it without damage but 31 pitches is going to make it tougher moving forward.

They fouled off like 15 pitches

Derwood beat me to it, but the events that led to all the vitriol above:

- a 61 mph EV opposite field bloop to paredes

- a ground call up the middle

- striking out altuve

- cam smith fly out to Tucker that didn’t reach the track

- ground ball to Dansby for a routine out

He gave up two soft hits then retired the side. Buck up, you ninnies

Do you serve as an apologist for every mediocre pitcher that exists on this team? LOL yesterday you came at me for saying that Rea sucks.  Even though most people on this board would agree with that statement 🤷‍♂️

I’ll take a different approach. Colin Rea sucks because of his entire body of work, and what he did yesterday, which included getting fairly lucky BABIP wise but also giving him credit for zero walks, shouldn’t change your overall view because it was 5 innings.

Jameson Taillon is an average pitcher results wise who eats a ton of innings. The contract has been fine, his performance has been fine. Commenting on his overall skill level because of a bloop single and a ground ball single (neither of which scored) is dumb.

Also, he has Cam stuck out but the umpire missed the call. He got him out twice

Agreed. Jamo is a decent #3 starter. Not great, but ok. He is a solid #4. Rea is, at best a #5, swing starter. That said, this is a rough match up for him.

I generally save my "player X SUCKS!!" posts for times when the player is sucking. I don't think Jamo is sucking so far in this game.

I wish we had pitchers like Valdez on the Cubs (outside of shota)

Edit: he says as Berti of all people singles off him

Valdez has A+ stuff today, will be tough to score much.

I was just ready to type Berti will run and off he went.

People saying that he is sucks because Houston fouled off pitches is weird. Give credit for Houston for doing something that is a lost art in the game today...

Justin Turner’s biggest highlight of the year was wearing a fake ballsack and here is is with yet another uncompetitive AB. Just release him already ffs.

Disagree completely on Jamo being a #3.  He's got a mid 4 FIP in 3 years with the Cubs, and a negative WAR for 2 of his 3 seasons here.  This is a guy you'd want to pitch in a game 3 of a playoff series?

He's a #4 or #5 on a good team.  Not overpaid I guess because he fills a lot of innings.  But not really that great.  Definition of average.

Kinda feel like Steele is about as close as you can get to Valdez, to be fair

Yep I've been wanting to give him a shot but I'm pretty much done with him.  Cool that he's a good clubhouse guy but if he's our platoon guy against lefties it's simply not working.  I'd keep him as a 26th man but not this role.

BTW he did have a walk off hit for the Cubs so at least there is an on the field moment that you can remember.

Valdez is really tough to hit and he had some filthy movement on that strikeout pitch but Turner was fishing that whole AB
