At least Ben Brown was effective, showing his potential.  And, while I believe the Tigers are good there's no one scary in their lineup, on a given day, it can be held in check.

Wish there was a way to get Busch up for Hoerner. Love Nico but down 2 with 2 outs in the 9th and a runner on 1st is not where you want to see the powerless guy hit

At least it was an entertaining one with a big game feel to it. Hate seeing people from Detroit happy about anything though.

Annoying loss, but at least Apple get to sell tens of headphones because their sideline reporter showed them off by wearing them for three hours,

Cardinals will probably lose tonight, I don't see how Sonny Gray doesn't get jacked by the Dodgers.  Good chance Brewers go down as well, Padres are up, Vasquez is out, advantage Padres.

I believe the sideline reporters are contractually obligated to wear them. I had the D’Backs/Reds game on earlier and Heidi Watney was wearing Apple headphones as well.

Two really solid outings for Brown one dominate, one really good, is this the first time all season Brown has been good back to back?  A consistent Brown is a big plus for the Cubs, the only worry is the number of innings.

Frustrating game but Detroit played awesome and the Cubs played slightly less than awesome. No more Skubals this weekend so this series is still there for the taking.

Is it odd to feel optimistic after a loss? Here's probably, the best team in baseball right now, with the best pitcher on the planet.  To beat the Cubs it required them to play nearly perfect and if not, for some Cubs mistakes, the Tigers may have still lost.  I'm optimistic the Cubs are truly a good team and will win the next two games.

Not a terrible loss. Definitely not one to be mad about.

I respect Skubal and the Tigers but do not fear them. I do believe the Cubs are slightly the better team but the Tigers have the one thing the Cubs don't: that dawg of an ace. If the Cubs had a Skubal, I do believe they would further ahead in the division.

Props to Brown for going pitch-for-pitch with Skubal.

Let's get one of the next two.

I totally get Berry sending PCA on that play. There was a bobble in left field, and if there is ever a time to send someone, it's when PCA is running. However, that recovery from the bobble was perfect, as was the throw. Still, he committed to sending him, so he should have just let it play out. As fast as PCA is, he probably would have been safe. The smarter play was to just hold him up at 3rd, where PCA scores on just about any kind of play outside of a strikeout.

I don't have Apple because of baseball. I doubt anyone does. The picture itself is stunning. But those graphics between frames are almost bad enough for me to turn the game off. How are they not aware of how bad they are? The stadium lights graphic that pops on your screen for a split second over and over seems like it should come with a warning for people with light sensitivities.

Yes, I am the angry man yelling at a cloud.

That played out like a playoff game between two excellent teams.  Can't be too mad.

Agreed, great atmosphere - and I thought we actually had some very good at bats vs. Skubal I just think like our D vs. Washington the other night they made several great defensive plays.   Hell PCA's first AB may have gone over the fence?  And his base running gaffe cost us a run.  I think you can make an argument Detroit's first run could have been unearned - not an easy play but I thought one Shaw could reasonably be expected to have made on Javy with 2 out.   And albeit not off Skubal, Seiya got robbed of a homer by another great defensive gem and there were what 1 or 2 men on?

We faced their best - and probably the best pitcher in baseball by most accounts and were right there with them.   Let's get them today.

I wasn’t watching at the time and haven’t seen a repla,  but Coomer fully pinned it on Barry. Said he was sending PCA and then changed his mind, leaving Pete in no man’s land. Accurate?

Absolutely. It was not a PCA mistake. It was a Berry mistake, and a very dumb one at that. No reason to even consider sending PCA. 2nd and 3rd and no outs with a contract hitter up. My guess is tigers play the infield back. That was as close to a sure run as the Cubs could come. Probably 60-70% or more that he scores from third. Sending PCA is probably, at best, 30-40% chance. And then to hold him last second was ridiculous. That one was totally on Berry. And it probably cost them the game.

Yes, and the stop sign went up literally after PCA touched 3rd. PCA did everything Berry told him to do the instant he told him to do it. And found himself 10 feet off the base before he was able to turn back to 3rd. Berry's lucky PCA didn't hurt himself, or he'd be deservedly out of a job
