Great time for Pressly’s first 1-2-3 inning!!

Had to get though Freeman and Ohtani too knowing that if either of them reached Betts was behind them.

Wow, keep it going

Hoyer needs to make a big move soon and get a TOR replacement for Steele.

Could Cease pitch for us tomorrow night???  😂

Also Rea was kind of incredible tonight.  If he can sit 94-96 for 3ish innings there might be some real long term utility there.  With how dominant Jordan Wicks was at Iowa this afternoon in a 3 inning stint maybe there's a successful piggyback arrangement to be had.

The kind of arm you are implying the Cubs should target is not getting moved right now. So there is no need to rush into a trade.

I said it earlier. Rea really impressed me. Even the run he gave up the Dodgers got 2 soft contact hits before someone hit the ball hard and drove the run in. I did not know he threw that hard.

They went after Bregman for a reason, and they would have been complete fools to pass on teading Paredes (and everyone else) for Tucker.

Shaw has the goods, but we all knew he would need to adjust. However, this team's offense is also good enough to get by with him struggling in the short term.

If he still looks rough in June, then I'll be worried. For now, let him take his lumps and hope he has a 2024 PCA-like turnaround.

Absolutely. PCA looked lost last year before he got hot.

This is the growing pains of watching young players adjusting to the majors. I have no doubt Shaw will get going.

I mean who honestly is talking about them winning 130? I’ve heard people wonder if they’ll get 117.

Fairly certain I heard the ESPN crew talking about them chasing 130 wins, don't believe 117 is realistic either.  They're too old, a little injury prone and don't catch the ball very well to win 117 games.

busch and pca are both on pace for 6 win seasons

While talking about being on pace for anything after 18 games is kind of silly. But when you factor in PCA is doing it and actually only hitting .229 with OPS under .700 you realize just how valuable he really is. This isn’t some guy putting up crazy numbers so that when discussing his pace you know he won’t keep it up. No reason PCA cannot keep up what he is doing. And, in fact probably can be an ever better offensive player than what he has been up to now. As for Busch, I am fairly certain he will regress. But that said, I do believe in his bat and he is a good first baseman. Wouldn’t be shocked if his end of year WAR was around 4.

The ESPN broadcast really is terrible. The broadcasters have done zero research themselves (clearly reading off of notes handed to them), actively holding conversations with players who are trying to play the field, features on everything but the game, etc. Horrible

Busch absolutely Hulking out every time we face the Dodgers is one of my favorite sub-plots on this team.

I watched the condensed game last night and MLB inexplicably put 2-3 minutes of the on-field conversation crap in there and it's cut-up and disjointed and absolutely nothing close to enlightening or entertaining.

Just for reference, last year Vlad, Harper and Freeman were the only 1B to top 4 fWAR or bWAR, so that would be a fantastic result for him for the season.

Oh, I know. And I also know 4 is a very high WAR. But I honestly think he is better than a 3WAR guy so rather than being more reasonable and saying 3.3WAR I want for it and suggested 4😬 I think he is a very good hitter. 3rd best hitter on the team, IMO.

Most of the miked up on field interviews come across very awkwardly in my experience.  The only one I can ever remember watching and thinking it went very well was one with Joey Votto.

They had Jung mic'd up before he was injured last spring training and he was a gd natural at it. Remember being impressed.

Debuting Shaw in the toughest month possible considering Tokyo and the schedule and the Chicago April weather after a short spring for him has been a crazy assignment for him and not surprised at all he's struggling.

At least he's played solid D the last couple of series and taking walks.
