For what they gave up for a guy that been struggling big since May, they better hope he has a solid end to the season.

I am as big a fan of Morel as anyone here. But Paredes is basically producing numbers we want from Morel. And he can play a better 3rd. And as I said, Paredes is putting up the numbers. We only hope Morel would have. And I have no issue at all with the others they gave up.

What is the contract situation with Paredes?

Someone just posted it in the transactions thread.  Controlled through 2028 I believe.

Jason Heyward put up 7.1 fWAR over 7 seasons in a Cubs uniform.

Dansby Swason has put up 6.4 fWAR in a season and a half. He was the 5th most valuable SS in baseball last season.

The two situations are not remotely comparable.

There was logic in giving Heyward his deal based off past production. $177 million to a guy with a 14.6 WAR in 7 seasons with one season above 3 made no sense at the time and still doesn’t.

Found it ….

He is making $3.4 million this season, the first of his four years of arbitration eligibility, and he won’t be a free agent until after the 2027 campaign. It’s unusual for Tampa Bay to trade a productive young player with so many years of club control remaining, but it is worth noting the Rays’ top prospect in Triple-A, Junior Caminero, projects to be a third baseman in the big leagues.

Gotta remember, 2020 was shortened by COVID. Dansby put up 2.1 fWAR in just 60 games that season.

Here's the leaderboard for SS in the three years prior to signing with us:

  1. Trea Turner (16.3 fWAR)
  2. Francisco Lindor (12.2)
  3. Carlos Correa (12.1)
  4. Dansby Swanson (11.9)
  5. Xander Bogaerts (11.7)
  6. Bo Bichette (10.6)
  7. Corey Seager (10.4)

Dansby had clearly established himself in the upper tier of MLB SS. If you include 2023-2024, he's still in fourth place, behind Seager but ahead of Correa.

Dansby was not some god awful signing, and I'm confounded by the revisionist history that somehow completely forgets about last year and says that this year means the contract was bad.

That's just the nature of free agency.  It's a sport where peaks are trending younger to the degree that most players are in their decline years before they hit free agency.  You get what you get, or you get nothing.

146 AB 25 hits 6 HRs

He hasn't done much since the start of June

Hope he finishes alot better though, be nice to have two 25 YO playing the corner spots the next few years under team control.

Not Cub related, but it's still fun, Crochet got lit up a bit and the White Sox are down 6-1, 12 outs from their 14th loss in a row.

Him starting today makes you think they might not trade him

Well when he's demanding a contract extension if he's traded to a team that plays in October, I'd say he was the one who made that decision for the White Sox.

He followed up in 2021 with a 2.8. His production this season capped off with Jed’s $240 million last place masterpiece gives that signing a more pessimistic outlook but who exactly was Jed bidding with? Atlanta offered him 6 $100 million.

Best part is it’s the Ms my second favorite team that is doing the bidding this time against them.

Per MLB.com, the Cubs are also now in on the mix for Snell. Why?

Sounds like Tom might have told Jed his job is on the line and to spend whatever to fix this team?

Edit: wait I just saw Snells number this year wtf

Unless he's waiving his opt out clause, why would he?, I see no purpose in this.
