Maybe just me, but the Closing Ceremonies coverage from L.A....  Not great. 

The Tom Cruise thing started out cool, but then the video got really glitchy and the audio for the musical performances wasn't any better.  I guess they have four years to get the bugs ironed out before the Opening Ceremonies in 2028!

The whole gymnastics controversy is really why I am not a fan of judged sports. The athletes are absolutely amazing and the competition is decided by a panel of imperfect judges. Now they're arguing over an appeal that is required within 1 minute? I mean, it just seems ludicrous.

And wasn’t it like 4 seconds late too? It’s not like it was 30 minutes late.

100% with you on the judging sports too. Never been a fan of how arbitrary they can be.

I guess they now have a new complaint with a video that shows they made the appeal at 47 seconds and again at 55. It's just crazy. In the meantime, the other competitor was docked for stepping out of bounds and video shows she didn't. I guess part of it is not understanding the subtleties so it all just seems so random and leaves me feeling like the favorite always wins - figure skating is the same

USA gymnastics is now saying that there video evidence that proves that Chiles coach got the appeal in on time.

What pisses me off is Romania and the USA agreed to share the medal and the IOC denied it. This is an embarrassing situation, just either stick with your original decision or let them share it

None of this would even be a thing if they hadn't screwed the Romanian gymnast out of 0.1 point for an out of bounds violation she didn't even commit.

Between that and watching the Chinese divers automatically have a 1 point per judge advantage on every other nation's athletes no matter what they do I'm really getting sick of judged sports.

I didn't watch any diving, but what's the deal with that?  Why would Chinese divers have an advantage?

Very similar to the 80's in figure skating where the USSR and East German judges always gave better scores for their country while giving lower scores for the West.

Sure, but even if you are doing that, it gives an unfair buffer (assuming the judges are biased, which I am not making a judgement on either way).

I'm no diving expert but it just seems like a self-fulfilling prophecy watching those events, where everyone knows how good the Chinese always are in diving so the judges are giving them higher scores. I saw several occurrences of (again, untrained eye) seeming imperfections by Chinese divers being given much more leeway than the same imperfections by Canadians or British or what have you.

There was an athlete who requested he share the bronze with his competitor at the last Olympics and the IOC approved the request. Why would they care now?

I don't know about any of it, but I saw the tandem dive for like two minutes, and the Chinese tandem looked like a slightly blurred version of one person to me.  It was incredible.

They're definitely the best and they would win everything even if whatever perception I have about the judging was eliminated (they're totally blowing away the field with their scores).
