Fedde has actually been quite good in his stateside return.  Games where he or Crochet are starting aren't a gimme.

He's 7th in baseball in pitcher bWAR at 2.6.  The only starter we've faced this year with a higher bWAR is Houck from Boston.  Obviously pitcher WAR is flawed but at least by that metric he's really solid.

Kind of crazy, another one of those mediocre/bad starters that goes overseas and comes back much improved.  5.41 career ERA in 6 seasons with Washington, now one of the best starters in baseball so far this year.

Hes got a 3.77 FIP, they arent facing Jesus out there.

OK then he's the 12th best starter we've faced this year by FIP.  Not saying he can't be hit...he just gave up 4 runs in 5 IP to the Brewers last week (shocker).  Just kind of in awe of how effective he's been after being such a below average dude in Washington.

Fedde was a pretty hot prospect I used to hope we would trade for way back when. Looking at the pitch mix tells a pretty clear story. He's doing what everyone is doing these days: throw a splitter, which I am sure he developed in Korea.

Him I know. I don’t know a Lazardo. Guess you missed the sarcasm. My bad. Kind of a think with biitner, who I responded too. All good.

I understood the sarcasm, was looking at his statistics, nevertheless, posted it.  I wonder if he'll be on the market, would imagine he'd have a hefty price tag.

That's putting it mildly.

3. Jesús Luzardo, LHP, Miami Marlins
2024 Stats: 51.2 IP, 4.18 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 8.7 K/9
Contract: $5.5M 2024, arbitration-eligible in 2025 and 2026

There has been speculation about Luzardo as a trade candidate dating back to December, and The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal stoked those flames in a big way last week in saying that Luzardo is "the single most likely player to be traded." Since the beginning of 2022, Luzardo has a 3.59 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 10.3 K/9. Couple those solid numbers with two years of arbitration eligibility still to come and Miami should be able to get quite the package of prospects for this lefty. Seattle gave up a ton for 1.5 years of Luis Castillo two summers ago, and his numbers in the three seasons before being dealt (3.61 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 10.2 K/9) sure are comparable to what Luzardo has been up to lately.

Mariners gave up 4 prospects, 3 of their top 5, which slotted into the Reds system as their #1, #6, and #15 after the trade. Noelvi Marte was #18 overall, the next guy was #93. Luzurdo gives you an extra year but probably a little less of the shine Castillo had, but you're still looking at like...Horton+Ballesteros+more?

Yea, personally, I’m not making a move for another SP. I’d rather ride with our current guys and see what Brown/Wicks/Horton become. I’d hate to move any of them tbh.

They need another starter because those guys haven’t pitched anywhere near the innings they will end up needing to pitch if they Cubs make the playoffs. I wouldn’t deal any of them, and the pitcher doesn’t have to be Luzardo or cost that kind of price. But they should look for another depth starter.

I should have been a little more detailed in my post, but I was more so talking about the likes of Luzardo or some other higher end multi year option. I like the idea of 5/6 years of Brown/Wicks/Horton opposed to trading possibly two of them for someone like Luzardo. I’m fine with adding a cheap, veteran rental to eat innings and help get us through this year.

Got it. I agree with you.
