I’m still confused by why Julio Rodriguez never PH and instead Pinch Ran. Wouldn’t you want him to get an AB in a 1 run game late? I could understand if they were just a team that when a player has an off day they are completely off the table for using but they used him for a pinch runner. Weird

edit: I suppose given his struggles he may have just been taking a mental day from hitting. Im sure getting picked off doesn’t help his mental struggles though lol

I've got confidence in Jed being able to pull off a big trade for pitching before the end of July.

Trade and a couple of these young arms that could be used in the pen, especially if Taillon pitches well and when Steele and Merryweather returns.

Much needed win with what on paper looks like a couple of difficult matchups next . They get Kelly tomorrow and then Hendricks pitches Tuesday .

Hopefully they can find a way to win a game in AZ . Getting back home after this very difficult part of the schedule 2 games over would be fine .

This bullpen will give Counsell nightmares . They really need to get Taillon and Steele back , so they can move a couple of guys to help out the pen .

Man I’d be so pissed if this same game happened in reverse with the Cubs playing the role of the Mariners. It almost wipes out the frustration of the 8-0 game.

Except Hendricks is pitching against someone as bad as him. And then Wicks is pitching against someone worse. I think you are giving Az pitching more credit than it deserves. If they take 1 of 3 and have a 4-5 trip that isn’t awful. But I am not conceding Az wins 2 because of pitching match ups. If we are going to cap these pitchers rough match ups, then basically everyone is a tough match up. Kelly is ok. But no reason the Cubs can’t hit him. And the other 2 are bad.

Bullpen was due a game like this.  Their ERA coming into today was more than a half run higher than their peripherals.   Today wiped out more than half of that gap but they're still a little in the red luck-wise.

But yeah 2/3 this series is huge.  Now even a sweep in AZ and you exit the toughest stretch of the year at .500 (please don't get swept though?).

Steeles hammy? I'm not convinced he's a lock to return to his superb form this season.

Merryweather with a broken rib in his back is a very strange injury. Stroman had it last season and sucked when he returned.

Taillon had a lower back ouchie. These can tend to flare.

Jed has to deal for a pitcher.

Omg I’m having September flashbacks with the ****** Arizona pitchers lined up to start against the Cubs.

edit: and the “someone worse” is the infamous Pfaadt who I was looking forward to facing last September due to his season ERA being over 6, but he ended up beating the Cubs twice and then pitching several important games for the DBacks in the playoffs.
