Seem to be a lot of NE fans that are interested in Fields. I don’t know if the FO is interested but if they are what do you think of a trade of Fields + 1.09 + a 4th or something for 1.03 and taking MHJ?  Is that enough to get the 3rd pick. (Or too much) and is it an efficient enough use of resources?

If I was NE I wouldn’t be happy with that trade

1.03 was just traded for last year. Texans gave up 1.12, a 2nd last year (33rd overall) and a future 1st and 3rd for 1.03 and a 4th rounder.

In our wildest dreams, Fields has the value of a high 2nd and a future 3rd. Then there's still that future 1st. Granted, you would be giving them a pick 3 picks higher than the trade last year, but unless they absolutely adore Fields and hate every other QB after Williams and Maye, that doesn't seem like nearly enough in return for the Pats.

One of the less inspiring names on the list, but certainly a competent option. First thought is this increases the odds of Fields returning a small amount, as he’s a guy that can supposedly resurrect a flawed qb. But Poles may just like to use that thought process as leverage for trade options.

None of those names were inspiring. Six of one, half dozen of another, imo.

Would have been cool to be a fly on the wall on how they approached these discussions with experienced OC's. How do you approach the feelings of an experienced OC with Fields getting ready to go onto his third OC with the same team vs. drafting possibly the top QB in the draft, and then absorb that info and then compare answers to get your new OC?

If Waldron was the best/second best OC candidate out there, surely there are better OC jobs with better QB's to work your scheme than Fields. Eberflus wasn't sure he was keeping his own job this offseason.

Seems from everything I'm reading this morning, Fields or Williams are both still options with this signing. I

Solve for this equation

New OC (good with rehabbing QBs) - (working for QB collective + New QB target)/(Bears decision making history) = ?

Fair enough. The athletic (Jahns?) speculated the possibility that Waldron could bring Olson as his Qb coach/passing game coordinator and Brown as RB/running game coordinator. That would provide a deep bench of experienced offensive coaches that could provide stability in the (unlikely?) event that the offense shines and Waldron gets HC opportunities in 2025 or 2026.

But more likely the offense will be a bag of “meh”

I thought I heard Chris Harris was getting a look at DC. he last was passing D coordinator (or some thing like that) with the Titans. Def knows t cover 2, and the last Cover 2 deciple who started in as secondary coach turned out ok for the Bears (Lovie) Thoughts?

In general, I like that we're hiring a guy who has already been an OC elsewhere.  It's an incredibly big job and having had that responsibility previously is significant IMO.

I think it's especially important since it seems like the OC is effectively going to be a co-head coach in charge of the offense.  I would imagine the role of OC on the Bears is a much more intensive job than, say, OC on the Chiefs or the Packers, and having someone with experience in the role would substantially flatten the learning curve.

Yes they are interviewing him. While the OC is probably going to run the offense as his own thing, the DC is more of a situation where Eberflus can and probably should groom a younger guy.

Does/do Waldron and co. know Eberflus?

They do now.

There isn’t a coaching history but the coaching world is small and they probably know plenty of guys that knows the other.

I wonder if Kubiak is the guy if SF hadn't won? He seemed like the obvious choice.

I thought Waldron was the most likely before. He was the first interview and got a little bit of extra attention from media. Poles stressed the need for a guy that can be adaptable to many different QBs. Waldron has worked with a lot of different guys, has the ties to McVay and plenty of play calling experience.

Saw a rumor that Waldron is another Trace Armstrong client so queue the conspiracy theories.

Holmes and Bernstein are just so exhausting to listen to sometimes.
