Down to 5 draft picks in 2024.  It's a near lock they're trading either 1 or 9 now. I really hope Bates is not their answer at center.

You can’t force a backfill of draft picks because you traded a 5th for an interior lineman. They need blue chip talent and right now 1 and 9 are their best options, with free agency a 3rd chance.

The Bears need studs at the skill positions, not quantity. Draft Williams and Odunze.

Exactly.  No reason to get upset at losing a 5th rounder. They may only have 5 picks but 2 of them are top 9.

It would be a huge mistake for Poles to gather picks every draft. At some point the picks are fungible, but not 1st round picks that high.  Someone said, "Don't overthink this".

Yep. They will get a pick back for trading Fields, and likely better than a 5th. At the very worst, Fields for one year and 1.6m is a nice bridge back for whoever that same team drafts.

Trading for Bates kinda makes me think they will be signing another Center as the starter. I've read that the dude from Miami might be that guy. He's coming off an ACL injury, and Bates is your insurance guy. May not be much to it, but I've read that it may not be all that popular to have a rookie Center snapping the ball to your rookie QB.

I also don't think you trade back either one or nine to make up for the lost 5th rounder. You get one of those top 3 WR's if you can.

Heard some talk of there being run on the WR's leaving the best OL or DL prospects still available at 9 for the Bears.  Guess I'd be okay with either but, it's too bad if none of Nabers or Odunze is available, maybe, reach a little with Thomas from LSU or Coleman from FSU? Either way, the focus of this off season must be on offense.

If Nabers and Odunze are both gone at 9, I'm cool with moving down, especially if it's for someone moving up to get a QB. Maybe Denver or Vegas? Then you can pick your BPA at 12 or 13 and then get a WR in the 2nd (Mitchell? Coleman? McConkey?) presuming you get one in the deal for #9

Yeah I'm not crazy about moving down. There's only 53 active roster spots, you don't need to make 10 picks every single year.

I really like our spot at 9.   There's at least 9 premium offensive talents in this draft, and I'm perfectly content to sit and see which one falls to us and take him.

I get that WR is becoming a premium position of need on teams given how air attack is the best weapon of choice for offenses, but I'd be shocked if all three of those guys are gone at 9.

Williams, Maye and Daniels are pretty much givens in the top 8. Harrison Jr. is also a given. There's only 4 more spots in that top 8, and one of them is probably Nabers or Odunze. You have 3 premium OT's and a top 10 TE in Bowers, and the Chargers seem like the perfect fit for Bowers. They drafted Quentin Johnston last year. There is a possibility someone trades into the top 10 for McCarthy. All of this said, not one single defensive player has been mentioned and there are some special defensive players that are worthy of top 10 status.

But, if there really is a run on them in the top 8, I'm in agreement you trade down and pick up an extra pick somewhere and then grab a WR with one of those two picks.

I'm also curious what Poles might do at WR in free agency. They clearly need one free agent to give the rookie time to develop. Whether they go big with a Pittman/Ridley type free agent or go Samuel/G. Davis type of lower tier WR will be interesting. I can see Scott and St. Brown back next year, but they need two holes filled via free agency/draft.

Considering the desperate need for weapons on offense, I'd be surprised once again if they signed a second tier type WR and then waited until the 3rd round or later to address the position in the draft if they did miss out on the top 3.

I think one of the WR's should be there at 9 and if not, then go LT with #9

yes, if all 3 of the top wr's are gone, Bowers is likely to be there. Pair him with Kmet and DJ Moore and you have 3 quality targets. You could bargain bin shop later rounds or FA for a WR

I don't like it, but I think I'd come around once I see Williams hook up with Odunze for a TD week 1, haha.

I'll believe that 3 WRs are going top 8 the moment the third WR's name is called at the podium.

Don't forget, teams also do weird horsefeathers all the time. It's not out of the realm of possibility that someone like Vegas trades up into the top 10 to take Smith or Mitchell.

If the Bears didn’t get a good WR in free agency and you’re at 9 and the top three WRs are gone, I still want the next best receiver. Bowers or the 4th best WR.

I’m shaky enough on Fashanu to pass at 9 (and 10!), agreed on just next WR up in that case. Skip Bowers tho, injured TE is a little much

Thomas or Coleman, given the combine results, would Mitchell be an extreme reach at 9?

Not extreme, because he's still gonna go top 25 most likely. But he's nowhere near the 9th best player in this draft. And I'm a Mitchell fan. But because of how deep this WR class is, there's no reason to reach for one at all. Granted, the Bears don't have another pick now til 75, but they can a WR from a pretty strong 3rd tier if they wait.
