im 99% sure he’s going to say that he never followed the Bears in the first place.

I know I’m the one that posted this originally but we gotta stop making stories out of instagram follow rumors. This fields story ended up all over the internet. Most of the time when these stories come out they make waves and like 95% of the time it’s either a player trolling or the player already followed a player/team or never followed a player/team

The draft can't get here soon enough. The "discussion" about what the Bears are going to do was already tired a couple months ago. Now it's insufferable, and I'm barely exposed to it.

The "Keep Justin vs. Draft Williams" civil war is one of the dumber things I've seen in ages, and given the usual level of discourse among football fans, that is really saying something.

I blame the length of time between the end of the Super Bowl and the draft, it's just too horsefeathers long, lending itself to this endless speculation, making up stories, looking for stories in anything or everywhere.

Is Chicago sports radio as crazy as social media?

Depends on the personalities. We've reached the February doldrums, so a lot of the horsefeathers-stirrers (Parkins, Mully, Kaplan) are throwing crap against the wall in the hopes of getting listeners/likes.

Anyone willing to share tidbits from the latest ESPN+ article on the Bears and proposed trades?

I literally don't pay real attention to anything until after the combine. All the mocks are pointless before then IMO. The combine really kicks everything off.

The next couple months should be exhilarating for Bears fans or Poles screwed the pooch.

proposed trades for 1: WAS (2, 40, 2025 1st); NE (3, 34, 2025 1st), ATL (8, 2025 1st, 2025 2nd, 2026 1st, 2026 2nd)

proposed for Fields: PIT (51, 2024 4th), ATL (43), LV (2024 3rd, Hunter Renfrow)

Field Yates with all the proposals... I think the deals for #1 all suck... the Pittsburgh and Atlanta deals for Fields I would do... not the Vegas deal

I wouldn't do any of the trades for #1.

I wouldn't be thrilled about the Fields trades, but would prefer the ATL or PIT deals if that was all I could get.

I would be thrilled with those fields trades and assume they will not actually get that much value. Or if they do, they will give up more on the backend

Fields trade:

I just don't buy the LV trade thoughts. Getzy is there.

Those Pittsburgh rumors were shot down.

That leaves Atlanta?

Some "expert" on the score mentioned Denver, but they don't have a lot of draft capital so if there were to be a trade it would involve more in 2025 than this year

None of those first round trades are happening. Poles said he'd have to be overwhelmed, and those trades won't overwhelm anyone. I would do any of the Fields trades. I feel like Poles will want to get a 2nd back from someone for Fields, just to either further erase the Claypool trade or to make the Sweat deal even sweeter.

I also think Washington will offer something more than that suggested offer simply because they want to make a splash with their fanbase with the new owners, and Caleb is from DC. It was possibly the big reason Kingsbury got the gig in the first place, which was to lure him in. Caleb is working without an agent and his dad is probably heavily involved. Maybe Washington thinks Caleb and is dad put pressure on Chicago to make a deal with Washington or else.... In the end, Poles likely won't like any deal Washington offers, because it still won't be enough to move off of drafting the best QB in the draft. I sense Poles' term "overwhelmed" is a higher place than Washington is willing to reach.

Fields will probably  go somewhere unexpected, because he's not going anywhere as a starter, he's going somewhere as a backup. People are too focused on "QB needy" teams when there's plenty of better options than Fields for those teams.

Yeah, I don't think Pittsburgh or Vegas are happening. Atlanta is almost too easy of a fit. Everyone has been saying Atlanta for 2 years. I do think teams like New Orleans, Denver, and even Washington or New England could be options.

Hiring Kingsbury makes me feel Washington wants a big time athlete at QB. Not that Maye isn't a great athlete, but I wouldn't put it past them to get a huge haul for #2 and then trade for Fields and let him compete with Howell.

The Patriots are IMO, the furthest team away from competing in the NFL right now. They could use a bunch of talent. I see don't see them sitting at 3 and taking QB3. I could see them trading down with a team that either wants QB3 or wants Harrison Jr ahead of Arizona. Fields would be a 1-2 year deal and they can see if they can get any value out of him while they rebuild that team post Belichick.

If the Bears would trade him in division, I could see the Vikings interested. They liked Fields a lot pre-draft.

Well that will probably take several good names off the market before FA starts

Yeah this is probably bad news for the Bears

However much the Bears had to spend this offseason, you can add $30 M more.

No excuse to not sign Jaylon Johnson now, ha

Seriously though, would this affect the number that Johnson asks for? Thinking in % of cap type figures. Or does this affect the franchise tag number? Maybe there's a year lag....

Yeah people on Twitter are spinning this as a big win for the Bears when all it means is that salaries are going to go up and less quality players are going to be cap casualties.  Like the news isn't "the Bears have $30m more in cap space" its "everyone has $30m more"
