There’s a pretty direct line from where we are today to the worst case scenario here. And the Bears have a tendency to find the worst case scenario.

Probably the most accurate statement that will be made on this site for a while to come.

I'm seeing Nabors and Odunze gone by #9 in more and more mocks. If that happens I guess that would leave them with the options of

1) Bowers

2) Fashanu/Alt

3) Turner/Latu

4) Trade back

and honestly unless they're grabbing Bowers, I probably trade back to like #15. You could still get a good OL there like Latham/Fashanu/Mims. There's also a decent chance one of Verse/Latu/Turner are there. The problem is that there isn't a WR that's worth reaching for at this point. Brian Thomas is more an early 20s picks in my eyes.

I feel like more mocks are starting to get away from that and you're seeing other guys enter.

Either way it doesn't matter.  Go pull up any mock draft database from early Feb 2023 using the Internet Archive site.  Probably half the top 10 at that time went 15 or later.

Yup, a lot of new names shooting up the boards. For many months it's been which of Fashanu/Alt will be the first OL to go, now it might be neither. I've seen mocks with Taliese Fuaga going before both.

This draft is also apparently insanely deep at WR.  Matt Miller had 14 (!!) go in the top two rounds in his mock yesterday.  Grabbing an LT at 9 and then trading back into the 2nd round (whether via Fields or otherwise) to grab a WR is not a very disappointing backup plan.

If they aren't in a spot for Nabers or Odunze I feel like just straight trading back from 9 will be Poles goal.  Obviously he can't force a trade up candidate though.

I'm not super convinced they'll get a 2024 pick for Fields. As with Darnold, Wentz and other QB trades of a similar nature, the bulk of the comp may be delayed by a year.  So if they don't like that gap from 9 to 75 Poles has to be creative. But he probably has to attack FA like that gap is gonna be there.

Or really, just attack FA like he's failed to do thus far.

Agreed. Now is the time, especially if you reset the QB contract clock.

Pay Jaylen. Get aggressive towards whoever of Pittman, Ridley, Evans and Higgins actually hits FA. Snag another FA IOL, I especially like Cushenberry from Denver if he's not re-signed.

Get it all out of the way before the draft.

If you get a 2nd for Fields, I’d be ecstatic. If you get a FIRST for him, I’m doing a backflip

im holding you to that

He needs to be gargling scotch while doing the backflip or I won’t believe it’s him in the video….assuming there is a video. if no video, it never happened

I agree. I think they need to sign at least one FA WR and C before the draft. There's no way you go into the draft with such gaping holes at those two positions. They obviously have more to address in free agency, but those are the gapingest of holes.

I also believe they should already be working the phones for suitors for Fields, if they do intend to trade him. Just not enough interested teams and free agency will eliminate more teams.

Not sure why Washington would do this and I have no idea if this Twitter or X account is worth anything but

I'd love that and with that #36, assuming the Bears take Nabers/Odunze at 9,  you grab one of Kamren Kinchens, Tyler Nubin, Chop Robinson or  Jackson Powers-Johnson. That would have me super hyped to start this draft.

Yeah, of course you’d love it because no way it happens.

I assume you mean Fields for #36, because the rest of that is pretty feasible.

well I really hope I'm not wrong because I'm utterly incapable of doing a backflip

My advice would be to attempt this on the edge of a swimming pool. Even if you don't stick the landing, it could be less painful and less likely end up in the hospital.

As long as they don't Greg Louganis themself on the edge.

It’s official. Mongo, Hester, and Peppers are headed to Canton. Am I the only one who thinks it’s weird that the Bears are claiming Peppers now? Does anyone not associated with the Bears think of any team other than the Panthers when they hear his name?
