I honestly don't know how much stock to put into that report. We all are aware of the stinginess of Bears ownership, but I have a hard time thinking that even if Eberflus was retained, that Getsy returns. That means they would need to convince a new DC and OC to step into a position that may only have a 1 year window. That's essentially committing to two poor candidates filling those vacancies.

On top of that, the disjointed organization narrative is out there. Whether they want to believe in it or not, Warren, Poles, and ownership know that perception is out there. If they are committed to sticking with Fields for at least another year, I guess I understand sticking with Flus. If their plan is to bring in a rookie and possible change head coaches next year, I think their setting themselves up for a whole lot of criticism.

Lastly, the report does say "strong finish" was the qualifier. I don't know that simply two wins is enough to clear that bar. None of us know the source on this report or what context any statement was made. I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being just a throwaway comment that was turned into clickbait by the end of the season

I kinda feel bad for Flus because 8 wins absolutely meets most people's expectations prior to the start of the season for this team. I just think he's the victim of circumstance that dictates a change at head coach.

Yeah if they win these last two games that's a strong finish. Even if they lose today but win next week vs the Packers their hated rival, he will be back

I think everyone is back but Fields. Getsy seems more safe to me. I feel Justin will be the fall guy, when all 3 share in the blame.

I don't see how Getsy is back, imo.

It would be incredibly ballsy. But, they will be hiring a DC and there will be turnover elsewhere on the staff. As others have pointed out, the list of quality OC candidates willing to align with potentially the final year of Eberflus may not be long. The Bears thing to do is bring back Flus, draft a QB, go 6-11 in 2024, fire Flus and bring in a new staff with no ties to the draft pick.

McCaskey and Warren have to be devising a plan to avoid that scenario.

I don't think the Bulls are a fair comparison.  The Bears have assets and financial flexibility, while the Bulls are up against the cap with mediocre/bad contracts and no help coming through the draft for several years. Taking the coaching decisions out of the equation, the two rosters have their arrows pointed in different directions.

Closer to the Cubs situation, but not close.

Do you think they are? I suppose if they believe Fields is the problem the way to go is to allow the coaches to play with another QB.

That's why I feared. So the Bears will have a lame duck HC, possibly GM, an OC and a DC. That should end well.

That's what scares me. Logic says, "don't want to give your defensive HC a rookie QB just to potentially have him with a new coach in Year 2 just like Fields and Trubisky". But if the Bears are keeping Flus, they probably aren't assuming he's gone after 2024 like the rest of us are

I’m willing to bet the bring everyone back

We’ve reached the point I’ve reached multiple times this year where I think “well maybe Fields is the guy”. This usually leads to an underwhelming rest of game and ending the game still unclear about anything regarding Fields

Well Fields has been about as good as you could possibly hope for so far.
