It's crazy that the Bears are 2 collapses away from being on a 7 game win streak. The team that played the first 5 or 6 games of the season had me convinced they were going to win 2 or 3 games this year.

After all the heat on the Bears after week 4, you do have to give Eberflus a lot credit for holding the team together. But was that heat just media heat and not necessarily in the locker room?

The way players have been responding to the media the last few weeks (especially to the questions directed to them about the 4th down blitz in the Vikings game), locker room heat does seem to be there.

I’ll give him some credit for keeping the team together and improving but also recognize that this was one of the easiest SOS in the league. Who knows what their record would be if they played a schedule like last years

I'll go on record, if the Bears beat the Packers next week, I just about guarantee that Fields, Getsy and Eberflus will be with the Bears in 2024. At this point the biggest question for me, would be if they take MHJ at #1 or trade back to #4 or 5 for a haul and take Malik Nabers.

My dad went on a tear about the Bears trading the Panthers pick for additional picks/players to help Fields and the defense during the second half of today's game.

Last week I would have shouted that down. Today, I only argued against it staunchly.

Trade back to #3 with Washington and get Harrison Jr and at least Washington's #1 pick next year

Damn, that was a satisfying win.

If we only historically collapsed in 2 games instead of 3 we’re looking at a win and in game next week. Unbelievable.

The Bears remaining path to the playoffs:

Week 16:
- Steelers beat Seahawks
- Packers and Vikings tie

Week 17:
- Bears beat Packers
- Lions beat Vikings
- Cards beat Seahawks
- Either Panthers beat Bucs or Falcons beat Saints

If the Bears simply had won every game they had a 90%+ chance of winning in the 4th quarter, they'd be 10-6 and leading the division right now.

I'll admit that I wanted Fields gone a few weeks ago and maybe I still do, but I really do salivate at the idea of Moore, Harrison Jr, Kmet, a decent line with a new C, and a solid running game - especially with this defense. Add someone like Hunter and if Fields progresses, that's team that can go very deep in the playoffs.

horsefeathers the packers

It's nice that we're at a point where I don't care about the draft pick, I just want them to embarrass the Packers.

@bukiewhere did you see the Bears still alive with GB/Min tie? Even if they are both out of the picture at 7-9-1, the Bears still need to pass Seattle and either NO or TB. Since we lost H2H with NO and TB and didn’t play Seattle I assume we lose any multi team tiebreakers involving those teams and with the Saints win today the best we could do is tie them and the Bucs are also 8-8

i mean this is all just to be nerdy but you and I both like that kind of stuff. The Bears aren’t going to make the playoffs but I’d love to investigate wild improbable outcomes lol

So let's say hypothetically the Bears stick with Fields next year and add weapons around him.  While I do think Bagent can be a decent NFL backup, they can't have him as the #2 behind Fields again, can they?

If the things I said above happen, this is how it shakes out.

EDIT: If there is a 3 team tie and they don't all have games against each other, the tiebreaker is conference record, and the Bears win that tiebreakers against either TB or NO.

Depends on if they retain Getsy, but if so, it's fait accompli.

This statistic is both amusing and maddening. Like others, I've given Eberflus credit for not losing the team... but this is a pretty damning stat.

I'll just leave this here.

Oh, I'm aware, and I'm still in the "Take Caleb Williams at #1" camp, particularly given the state of next year's QB options in the 2025 draft.

Buuuuuuut, my threshold for trading out of #1 has lowered a bit over the last few weeks. Fields might never be more than an overall decent QB who hits occasional splash plays, and that's why they should try for better with Williams, but I've backed off from "only for a Ricky Williams haul" with these last few games.

Why would it matter. If they pass up the top of the draft the next best opportunity is likely in future years (if/when Fields is given up on).  I mean you can take a fourth round flier or something, but it'd still be a major lotto ticket who would usually need several years even if they did hit.

I'm at the point where I wouldn't be unhappy with whatever they do. If they trade Fields and draft Williams? Cool. If they keep Fields and trade down and get a haul (and hopefully MHJ), also cool.

I probably wouldn't be happy if they stay at 1 and draft MHJ though, that wouldn't be maximizing their assets.

Poles has done a pretty impressive job of maximizing assets while also putting together a roster thats getting better and better. Now its the time to deliver results: construct a team that competes for the playoffs year and year.

Yes sitting at 1 and just taking MHJ would be the worst thing they could do.  And it's nothing wrong with MHJ obviously, but even if he's the next Larry Fitzgerald or Calvin Johnson the #2-4 WRs could all be #1 WRs in their own right and you're maybe adding an extra 3-4 high asset picks.
