Given Fields has done nothing but crap the bed vs. the Packers I'm not expecting much however, it sure would be sweet if he could lead the Bears to victory over those piss-heads.

It's a no lose scenario. If he plays well his value goes up, if they win we get to celebrate beating the Packers, if they lose then that's better draft position.

It would so Bears to keep these awful coaches and Fields and then trade the pick only to watch both of them become HOF QBs.

The Bears remaining path to the playoffs:

Week 16:
- Steelers beat Seahawks
- Packers and Vikings tie

Week 17:
- Bears beat Packers
- Lions beat Vikings
- Cards beat Seahawks
- Either Panthers beat Bucs or Falcons beat Saints

Let's go nobody tonight!

Edit: nevermind, bukie already posted the scenario.

Hey the last time I was rooting for a tie was that LV/LAC game that would have put both teams in the playoffs and it was 3 seconds from happening. Maybe we’ll have better luck this time.

How do you know this? How can you guarantee it?

I don’t know anything. That’s not the point. I’m reasonably sure that Fields has the ability to be a bad-mediocre QB. I’m also reasonably sure they have have bad coaching.

Why would it matter. If they pass up the top of the draft the next best opportunity is likely in future years (if/when Fields is given up on).  I mean you can take a fourth round flier or something, but it'd still be a major lotto ticket who would usually need several years even if they did hit.

I think it would matter because you are entering "win now" mode, especially if they use their picks to address other Non-QB positions.  With the rest of the roster being playoff-caliber, I think they should have better insurance than Bagent in the event of an injury.

Man, I bet the Bears would love those three 90% win probability games back now. The Detroit one in particular would give them the needed tiebreakers vs. Minnesota and Green Bay.

Yeah it’s gotten to the point where just one of them would drastically change their position. They wouldn’t be in control of their destiny because the Saints and Bucs would both own the H2H tiebreaker and have the same record but their path to the playoffs would be reasonable heading into the last week.

Dont blow 2 of those games and the Bears are in a win and in situation or a lose plus get help situation

Don’t blow all 3 and they have clinched a playoff spot already

If the Packers win tonight that sets up a win and in game against the Bears next week.  Wouldn't mind seeing Fields break the seal in addition to knocking the Packers out of the playoffs.

They'd be 8-8 already tied with the Saints and Bucs, but NO and TB play next week, so the Bears would be able to win and be in as the loser of that game would definitely be out.

At the beginning of the year, reasonable Bears fans were hoping for a season similar to the 2022 Lions. Well, the Bears have a chance to end the season very similarly to the Lions.

2022 Lions started out 1-6 got people talking about playoff scenarios then got eliminated Week 17. They also had the Packers Week 18 in a win-and-in scenario @ Green Bay.

2023 Bears started 1-5, got people talking about playoff scenarios and will probably be eliminated in a few hours. They have the Packers Week 18 in Green Bay

TB plays Carolina actually. The Saints play Atlanta

So you’d have LAR at 9-7 in the 6th seed and then CHI, NO, TB, SEA, and the GB/MIN winner all tied at 8-8 for the last playoff spot. One of them would be the NFC South leader but otherwise 4 teams all tied at 8-8

If you didn’t watch any Bears games and just looked at these stats, would you come to the conclusion that Fields made any leap this year? Obviously there are many more ways to analyze his performance beyond these basic numbers but it kind of jumped out at me when I went to his page just now.

it seems like the momentum is trending towards Fields staying and if that’s going to be the case I want to get there mentally where I am behind the decision. From watching the games it sort of feels like he improved but I’m not sure.

He is who he is. And that’s all he’s ever going to be. If you’re ok with that you’ll be ok. If you expect he’s going to get better you are setting yourself up for disappointment.

Today's game is why I am still keen on keeping Fields and trading the pick.

I feel like moving on from Fields is going to come back and haunt the Bears.

It's the Bears. Whatever move they make will come back and haunt them. At least, moving on from Fields has a ton of logic supporting it, which would at least be a new thing.

Only conclusion you can come to on those stats is how little he threw the ball last year, Almost 40 more throws this year in 3 fewer games. I'd honestly say that last year didn't really do much for him either way, but allow him to discover his legs are a real weapon. He just simply didn't throw the ball much last year and when he did, he had nobody to throw to.

That being said, yesterday was the only game where I was like, "ok maybe you can expect some more development with another weapon and a better OC". But it's hard to base anything off of game 39 in his career and game 39 only. LOL. I made a big deal in this thread about him throwing for 250 yesterday, because that's kind of the sweet spot for real NFL QBs. Justin has had 4 career one-off games over 280 passing against terribly performing defenses (except Pittsburgh as a rookie, that was a legit performance).  But that was just his 2nd in that sweet spot of 240-270 yards. 14 QBs average 240 passing a game and he hasn't shown the consistency to meet that top half of the league baseline. And outside of the few really neutered game plans at times last year, he's had every opportunity but missed them due to not pulling the trigger or getting thru his reads fast enough. One more game like this would go a long way to making me feel better about keeping him, but it's not the preferred move either way.

He's always been capable of moments of brilliance. He hasn't shown he can be routinely good, and has shown a propensity for the negative plays like easily-avoidable sacks, fumbles, and picks.
