FWIW, I have to think the seeds will get massaged to avoid first-round rematches. There are going to be rematches in the 12-team playoff - I'd say that's a deal-breaker for me, but the conferences themselves don't seem to mind considering how many title games are rematches these days - but they're not going to have PSU/OSU and Ole Miss/Georgia play rematches when they can just switch those games around.

I don't see any way they are getting around it.

Probably safe to bet he ain’t holding out from the draft

Yeah, this almost definitely puts an end to that speculation

Iowa and Louisville were metaphorical then who would actually be playing.  My point is there would be teams in the 9-16 range trying to play their way in or stay in

I realize they were metaphorical, but I think a 2nd best ACC team is gonna struggle to ever make it, even if they win it.  We'll see how BigTen plays out.  I guess they're doing away with divisions so it may help, but I could see a team playing it's way out of a CFP appearance with a bad CC appearance (or I guess an injury to their QB apparently)

I think he's skipping the bowl on even considering the draft. If the way it shakes out leads him to think he wants to go back to school rather than play for Belichick or the Bears he could still make that decision later.

The other thing with WIlliams is he can just say, "I don't want to play for ____" or "I want to play for ____". Elway did it, Eli did it. NFL teams and players may not love that, but he can certainly do it and sit out if he wants. He got $4M or something to go to USC (not sure where i heard this or may be the wrong player) so he's not destitute and can hold out for a year if it's that big of a deal to him.

My main point is I wouldn't read this as an indicator that he would not go back to school. (I think he'll enter the draft BTW)

Yes he can make good money staying in school, but he's also adding tremendous risk of injury/underperformance that could cost him 10s of millions in next year's draft.

Happy NSD!

Penn State and Michigan with disappointing classes (currently 14 and 16).

Ohio State in danger of both of their top DL recruits flipping

The #1QB in the class flipped from Georgia to....Nebraska?

4-star WR Jeremiah McLelland flipped from OSU to Oregon.

Buckeyes taking some hits today

Legacy kid. Dad was a star at Nebraska.

Speaking of Dom, I used to spend a lot of time in the Honolulu area for work. It amazed me how many people I met over the years that went to college in Nebraska. The bulk went to Creighton, but it seems like a silly place to leave the island for.

Same way a lot of the Polynesian kids end up playing in the state of Utah. Doesn’t make sense to me but it’s a real thing.

I think that one has a more compelling reason for it(Mormons) than Hawaiians choosing Nebraskan colleges.

LOL @ FSU

I think they would have lost, possibly handily at full strength regardless, but did you see how many people they were missing? They were without their top 2 QB, top 2 RB, top 2 WR, starting TE, 2 of their 3 starting LB, 3 starting DBs, and 3 starting DL. Almost literally half their team wasn't playing. They desperately need to move the transfer portal deadline because that is terrible for bowl games.

A&M had 55 scholarship players for their bowl game including only 3 WR’s. The walk on 12th Man started at LB. We had 2 starters playing on defense. Our 3rd string QB was knocked out of the game on the first play from scrimmage. And we lost by 8. FSU just took the biggest beat down in the history of bowl games.

I never said it excused how badly they performed, but between missing I believe it was 27 scholarship players and playing what is probably the best team in the nation, it should have been an expected blow out from the beginning.

It's a perfect comparison because, just like FSU, Texas A&M was also playing one of the best couple teams in college football that had won 29 straight games before losing in it's conference title game. Oh wait, they played a team that lost at home to South Alabama 33-7 and at UCF 45-3 (both of those teams were 6-6 before the bowls).

Florida State was also an undefeated team while A&M barely qualified for a bowl. So yes our opponent wasn’t Georgia but we also weren’t FSU.
