There's 'okay maybe a multi-year deal for a reliever', and then there's 'give up a QO pick to pay a reliever a multi-year, 8 figure AAV'.  The former is believable, although maybe not so much plan A depending on where the market goes with AAVs.  The latter seems like a desperation Plan D at best.

I just hope at the end of the offseason the Cubs FO aren’t patting themselves on the back that they “put the pressure on” in the Ohtani/Yamamoto/Soto trade market etc sweepstakes and end up with a bunch of Plan D signings. Now that would be disappointing.

But there is a lot of area between plan A and D. Would you be disappointed if they ended up trading for Bichette, a young controlled pitcher, and then added either Alonso, Hoskins or Bellinger and signed the other Japanese starting pitcher? Add a pen arm at around $5M and that is the off season.
I do want either Ohtani or a Soto trade. And then add from there. But they can still have a good off season without them.

This roster needs to add roughly 8-10 WAR for me to be "happy" with the offseason. I don't really care where it comes from. Ohtani and scrubs. Fine.

Bichette, Alonso, and another? Fine.

Once we get into that 12+ win range, I move from "happy" to legitimately excited.

A threat to who????  To me, "thought as a threat" means nothing more than the Cubs driving up the price to the real favorite.   That said, I really have a good feeling that the Cubs sign him.

Don't get your hopes up.  Remember last year Ricketts gave Hoyer the green light to spend "whatever it takes" to turn the Cubs into a winner.

I think we're a contender so we'll see.  Dodgers or someone else might blow our offer out of the water.

I think this is the best approach as a fan. It’s an exciting off-season for us no doubt, but the scenarios I’ve seen thrown around on here (I won’t even mention the craziness on Twitter and other places), I think there’s a good chance for a fanbase meltdown when we actually see the end results. I’ve seen posts saying they would be upset with a Soto trade. The expectations have went through the roof and some of these trade scenarios don’t have enough “hurt” from our side. No pressure Jed…

Of course I wouldn’t be disappointed with any of those options. I just didn’t name everyone I would love to sign/trade for this winter.

If the Cubs have given up on Mervis this works for me. Have Glasnow for one year. If the Cubs sign Ohtani too, he ends up taking Glasnow’s spot in the rotation the following year. But they can’t let Glasnow’s salary stop them from adding in 24.

Curious on the sourcing on this?

I mean there’s this, but surely nobody believes this? It’s not real lol

Exactly why I asked. Wanted to see if there was something legitimate out there or it was just this passing around.

No, that wouldn’t be real.

I can't see a bunch of Plan D scrubs if Bellinger and Stroman are off the payroll and need to be replaced.  Maybe Plan B guys.

Yea, I didn't see this one,  I read a couple tweets from posters talking about rumors, they probably were talking about this.

Agree, I tend to see them saying oh shucks we tried for the big guys but they chose elsewhere, but instead of the usual mid to low level guys they seem to target the majority of times, I think this offseason we may see a couple of guys just below the Ohtani level of players.

I also think we'll see a couple of big trades for them too.

They're going to have to make 2 pretty big moves just to get back to where they were last year filling in the holes of Stroman and Bellinger.
