Doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the Mets just because he said that. Interesting though. Definitely has my antennas up

Yep, that’s where I’m at. Gonna be on Twitter all day today now haha.

Interesting because yesterday some Vegas/gambling Twitter account with 150k followers tweeted that the Mets would be visiting with Ohtani before any other team and Cohen was trying to get the jump on the other suitors. Didn’t think much of it yesterday because it was a rando, though a rando with a large Twitter following.

Is this the kind of thing Ohtani and his camp did NOT want to happen?

Possibly, yeah. Depending on what the "news" is. If it's finalists, or who he's meeting with...that would likely fit that. If he's made a choice, probably not.

Yeah, but once he agrees with a team it’s gonna leak somewhere.

If the cubs are really in on a guy like Bichette, pay more and go get Witt Jr.  That kid is a special player, he will win an MVP some day and would be a gold glove caliber 3rd baseman.

Are the Cubs in on Josh Hader? Jon Morosi seems to think so.

Not a guy we’ve been connected to yet, but a guy that makes sense with the Counsell connection and obvious need.

I don't think the Royals are inclined to move Witt currently.

I can actually see this being the first big move the cubs make, an under the radar move that fills a huge need the cubs love south paws and the Counsel connection,

Nah. Just go get Gunnar Henderson. The Orioles seem prime to trade him with Mayo coming up soon...

Pipe dream. Makes zero sense for the Royals. Look at it from their perspective… they have PLENTY of time to try and build around him and win before they have to make the decision to trade him. They also refused to trade Merrifield when everybody wanted him and they had no path to winning and for whatever reason held on to him until he lost all his value really.

if the right names get floated, I’d think they’d have to listen.  I’m not brushed up on prospects but Caissie Alcantara and maybe both Morel and Ben Brown

Not happening and even if it did, that’s not enough.

That is a good point

I’m hoping that they learned from that and with new leadership would maybe do it differently… and maybe they see the cubs as good trade partners given how good Valazquez has been and how much young pitching we have to offer

This would be amazing too, they could use some of our young pitching

I really doubt it, but the Athletic did report that with Counsell on board Jed is softening his "no multi-year deals for relievers" stance.  I would still tend to think that maxes out at something like what the Braves gave Reynaldo Lopez though.

There's 'okay maybe a multi-year deal for a reliever', and then there's 'give up a QO pick to pay a reliever a multi-year, 8 figure AAV'.  The former is believable, although maybe not so much plan A depending on where the market goes with AAVs.  The latter seems like a desperation Plan D at best.

I am sure suggesting Gunner was sarcasm. The Orioles are not trading him either.
