I don't know if this has been mentioned anywhere else, but Alonso has also changed representation over to Scott Boras, so any idea of a trade + immediate extension is probably out the window.  If a team trades for him, they are trading for 1 year and then he hits the open market.

I've been on the Alonso to the Cubs bandwagon since they started tanking at in May. I don't think I'd trade Alcantara for him. I probably would trade Canario + any pitcher not named Horton, Wicks, or Farris. I'd throw in Mule too, he can be their PCA in three or four years.

Mets fans on twitter/x seem to think Steele/Horton/Ferris (or Shaw) is more than fair for Alonso. Oh, those poor deluded souls.

According to the article I just read, the Mets would have to have either PCA or Horton as a centerpiece in the deal. (ha!)

https://risingapple.com/posts/ny-mets-rumors-3-cubs-demand-pete-alonso-trade

That is clearly wishful thinking on the Mets side.  There is a world in which PCA is expendable if the Cubs are able to re-sign Bellinger to play CF.  But not for a guy with 1 year remaining on his contract.  There is no world where I would trade Horton for anything but a cost-controlled star.

The Whole PCA trade shook their entire organization, they refused to move any of their prospects for the 2022 deadline when they were firmly in it because of how bad they were robbed by Hoyer. That might add a wrinkle to any trade because they just seem salty about it.

They have new leadership in Stearns. I don't think he cares if they got taken in previous trades.

Cohen still might, though.

Maybe we could send them video of PCA's at-bats this September and that would make them feel better?

Honestly, if the Mets are ridiculous in their ask for Alonso I would be fine with signing Hoskins instead. Maybe use some prospects for a trade for a controlled pitcher. I have no issue trading prospects. However I do have an issue o repaying when you can just spend money to get a guy who is a very good offensive player. He isn’t Alonso. I get that. But he is a big upgrade at 1st for the Cubs.
Hoskins wouks also cost less as far as salary goes. So maybe they can add another decent bat.

I'd probably target Yamamoto and Bellinger first.  Alonso would be down a notch since he'd cost prospects and the other 2 don't cost any comp picks.  Bellinger also covers 2 potential holes in CF/1B as insurance in 2023 and longterm, and can slide to corner OF in future years also if needed e.g. an injury or PCA is able to hold down CF.  PCA's defense and speed will make him an MLB regular anyways.  I highly doubt they'd add 2 significant contracts this offseason unless Stroman opts out.  i'm fine if Stroman stays for 2024.

That was my first thought as well.

Tommy Boy loves him some Jed. Every time Jed speaks it's like PTR's hand is up his ass controlling what he says.

So Kim Ng declined her 2024 option with the Marlins. I can confidently say I would much have her than Jed going forward.

I'm curious what she did with the Marlins that impressed you. I didn't really pay much attention to her team building and only saw middling results.
