A winnable game in the off-season may be a struggle as the Bears face a real defense (something they don’t do well with) and a mediocre offense (something this defense can’t handle).

the home team is a 3 point favorite. It will be hot, humid and stormy. The heat and humidity will take a toll on depth, which the bears don’t have. They probably bounce back effort wise and put up a fight, but lose by 1.

over/under on Fields turnovers- 1.5

If you still want to believe the Bears can turn it around and try not to overreact to week 1 then the Bears must win this game.  They're not going to beat the Chiefs in KC.  So win this game or we start talking draft positioning, if we aren't already.

Lookahead line prior to week1 for this game was Bears -1.5 lol. Even Vegas was buying this BS.

Bucs 27 Bears 9

I may get to see the Bears two weeks in a row. Lucky me. It's hard to anticipate what to expect given last week. They were clearly not ready to play a football game and they had like 6 months to prepare. Maybe they'll be better this week but I kind of doubt it.

Tampa defense is good. Tampa offense is bad.

Bears defense is bad. Bears offense is bad.

I do think there will be a concerted effort to stick to the run game more and to get the ball to playmakers early and often.

Kyler Gordon is out for 1/2 the season with a broken hand, while Chase Claypool is fully healthy, so that's fun.

Expectations for this season tanked out in a 3hr timeframe last Sunday.  I'll take the Bucs and the points, thank you very much.

I mean, at this point, I'm convinced Justin Fields is just a bad QB. The ability to snap-process NFL plays and throw the ball to the right spot at the right time is the most important ability a QB can have.  Fields is a fun experiment in how good a guy can be if he's maxed out on every other skill and zero'd out on that one. The results have been not good.  Sure, it's possible he turns it around at some point this season, maybe even this week.  He's gonna get the rest of the season to try for whatever that's worth.

This team is pretty much exactly who we thought they were. Interior offensive line is abysmal (I'll admit, I didn't hate Braxton Jones as much on film as I usually do, although he's still overrated by PFF).  Defensive line might be the worst unit we've ever fielded.

I'm mainly interested to see if the coaching staff 1) sticks with the current plan to Shane Matthews-ify Fields 2) Goes back to early last year and lets him run around trying to break plays, taking a million sacks but sometimes doing something awesome or 3) gives up and goes to some sort of full college-style offense with lots of designed Fields runs.   No. 3 is the one that gives them the best chance to win a few football games this season but it's a white flag on Fields' career as a QB.

Really?  Why haven't you shared this perspective with us before? 😄

if Fields' career as a viable starting QB were a clock, I'd say we are at 3 minutes to midnight. He has time, but not much. I would love to know what NFL insiders think about his development or lack thereof. Like did the Bears botch this on draft day or did they fail to develop what could have been a decent QB?

To only comment on 1 sentence of this....this isn't even the worst DL in the last 10 months. LOL

They replaced Armon Watts (former UDFA), Mike Pennel (UDFA), and Angelo Blackson (4th round) with a pair of top 65 picks and a guy who's been a productive NFL player before unlike the 3 they lost.

Given that those top-65 picks have not broken into the starting lineup and were selected by the front office that took velus Jones jr. at 71, I'm whelmed at most

I feel kinda bad for some of the players when I hear Brisker ask why the fans are already booing in the second quarter of the first game, but it was clear even at that early point that the Bears aren't any good and don't look any different than the team that finished DFL in the league last year.

I can't even get excited about multiple first round picks or Aaron Rodgers' achilles snapping like an old rubber band (thus rendering the Packers pick less valuable).  It just washes over me into nothing.  I feel nothing.  I have no hope for the future and wish the team was disbanded and players scattered across the league.

Until they're sold we cannot expect anything different, this ownership, regardless of how hard they try, cannot get it right.  Its a completely frustrating, sad, hopeless, pathetic situation an infinite loop of garbage.  It's really amazing always the wrong decision with everything and we know they're not trying to horsefeathers up all the time but, they somehow manage to do so every time.

He complained about the fans booing last year too.  I mean I get it, I'm sure they are trying hard (well, most of them *coughChaseClaypoolcough*) but they haven't had to root for this team for 30 years, to get our brains beat in by our rivals during that whole time.  There are some frustrations with the current team but a lot of the anger and booing is built up from the 30 years of sucking and waiting for the tables to finally turn in the rivalry.  Not fair to them but they should understand where it's coming from.

Maybe they should Costanza their decision making and do the opposite.

I was just thinking yesterday about the Buffalo Bills went from a perennial SB contender in the early 90s, then went through 25 year period where they were basically the laughing stock of football, worse than us even.  Their fans were probably wondering when it would ever end and felt like the organization was broken, etc.  But they've managed to put it together and now are one of the best teams in the AFC.  Sure largely aided by getting Josh Allen, but they actually managed to develop him unlike every Bears QB in team history.   They hoped for things to get better and it did.  We hope for things to get better and then hire Matt Eberflus.

FWIW, I don't think the fans were booing the players so much as they were booing the play calling. I, too, would have loudly booed every bubble screen or poorly blocked run play. I'm not sure how every player on the team wasn't internally screaming when the play calls were coming in

Here it comes, I’m going to watch it even though I know it will make me miserable

It's here. I'm 15 minute sin and the phrase "brutal turn down" (i.e. Fields turning down an open pass) has been applied to three plays already. But he's got plenty of rips for the play design and other players too.

Which is fine, but also not the point.  The point is, those top 65 picks are more talented than the UDFAs they had last year, who aren't even on 53 man rosters this year. And they kept Justin Jones the same. And upgraded from a 4th rounder who has never lived up to his predraft hype to a former 4th rounder who is coming off a career year in 2022.

The interior DL is better than last year. It's just a fact. That doesn't mean it's good, just means what you said is wrong or hyperbole.
