GB is 1-4 right now if not for the Carr injury.

Which, thank goodness. I don't want them anywhere near Maye or Caleb

Aikman blaming it on the GB line, not love. Funny stuff.

NFL “analysts” talk way too much. The O-line wasn’t stellar but they played well enough. Love had a bad game and has benn only so-so since week 1.  His most veteran WR or (real) TE has played a total of 17 NFL games prior to tonight. There will certainly be growing pains there, too.

You aren't watching the Mannings? It's way more fun watching those two idiots insult each other during a meaningless, boring game.

I think it's quite a bit too early to write the epitaph for Young. He's on a horsefeathers team with horsefeathers players and a horsefeathers coach. They're going to have to get some talent around him and Young is going to have to get significantly better though. Drew Brees failed with his first team too.

Brees didn't fail with his first team. He played 5 years with the Chargers and was going to get really expensive on a team that really couldn't afford to go expensive at that position without losing a core of their team elsewhere. They went 11-4 and 10-6 in his last two seasons in SD with the top running back in the league taking pressure off of the passing game. In that same year they went 11-4, they drafted Philip Rivers in the first round, and they were ready to make the transition to him. Not only that, Brees had a labrum tear, had damage to his rotator cuff and a dislocated shoulder to end his final season with the Chargers.

Big contract, injury and a young QB in waiting made it quite simple. I honestly thought San Diego was stupid for letting Brees walk. He was already a special QB before he got to NO.

Love hurts, love scars

Love wounds and marks.

The beauty of it is the Packers are not bad enough to get anywhere near Williams or Maye.  So, if the current trend continues they'll be drafting a second tier QB and I'm not that all convinced they're good at developing QB's- current coaching staff.  Welcome to beginnings of QB and mediocrity hell Green Bay.

You had to know that week 1 against the Benny Hill Show Bears was a false positive.  A high school QB could have gone out there and had a day.

I don't put much stock in one game, especially the first of the season. As a fan, sure it was nice to see him have a pretty good game.  But most Packer fans know it was one game. Just like I don't put much stock in last night's game. It's his first year as a starter following a legend. I'll wait to make a serious judgment until season's end. Same for the young receiving core.

Someone suggested the Packers could draft JJ McCarthy and now I'm absolutely terrified at the thought.  I was able to handle Woodson because whatever he was a DB.  But a QB?  This can't happen.

Yeah I see this revisionist history a lot.  He made the Pro Bowl with San Diego!  I remember hype for his FA but also a lot of teams that were scared of the shoulder being something that would limit his career.

This made me curious. Who's the last Wolverine the Bears drafted? Was it A-Train?

Believe its David Terrell...though him and A-Train might have been the same year.

Not a ton of Wolverines on the team since then, most notable being Griese, most recent being Taco Charlton for a week or two last year.

But its funny, I don't care at all about OSU players coming to the Bears.  I adopted Fields as one of us as soon as he was drafted.  But the though of McCarthy being the face of the Packers for the next 15 years makes me sick to my stomach lol.

This feels like one of those NFL years where there are like 4-5 really good teams and the rest of the league is just fodder.

Going by team DVOA, the 49ers, Bills, Lions, Dolphins, Eagles, Chiefs and Ravens have effectively lapped the field on efficiency, with the Seahawks, Saints, Jaguars and Browns the next up, each being below average at one of the 3 facets of football (offense, defense, special teams). I currently have no idea who the bottom half of the playoffs will be in each league, and I don't think it matters thus far.

I remember the shoulder concerns. My memory is that Saban was at the Dolphins and didn't want Brees due to the injury concern. They went with Culpepper instead and then Saban was out shortly after.

Crazy to think that Saban wasn't at Alabama then, seems like forever

I'm almost certain Saban did in fact want Brees but either the medical team or ownership didn't sign off on it so it didn't happen and instead he ruined college football by driving everyone else insane with his dominance.

ETA - found this link. https://saintswire.usatoday.com/2021/07/23/nick-saban-drew-brees-injury-dolphins-news/

Now, it's entirely possible Saban is embellishing the truth because it's easy to say that in hindsight, but he is on the record in any case.
