Drew Smyly being bad (lately) doesn’t make Wesneski good (and/or really exposes how nebulous and loose a term “better” is) or put Wicks on regular rest for his ML debut in a pennant rate

My vote would be Wicks. If he can handle the innings load then give him a shot. Cannot, under any circumstances, be Smyly again.

Starting Pitcher that had been getting rocked, was demoted from the rotation and didn't do anything to prove he deserved another chance, and was inserted back into the rotation anyway.

You are comparing 10 ERA bad vs. Wesneski bad. Smyly couldnt get through 4 innings in like 6 of his last 9 starts and generally looked awful.  It was a poor choice, but even if you want to say ''hes a veteran and he'll figure it out", Ross gave him an extreme amount of rope tonight.  And you can't retroactively declare Wicks not prepared to start when they've known they needed a starter tonight for almost a week.

It’s less about Smyly moving forward and more Wicks was literally an impossibility tn. We’re like 3 weeks removed from totally definitely selling for The Future to demanding a MiLB debut on short rest to save the pennant…It’s a little much!

I agree there are issues with calling up Wicks out of the blue.  No one was projecting him to start this season, hes not on the 40 man, he's only been at AAA for a spell.  It's just an option.  I would have gone with Wesneski personally.

What I’m saying is Wesneski is terrible and Wicks isn’t making his debut on short rest at the start of 24 games in 24 days

So who should make the next start in your mind?  Smyly again?

Alls I know is: I’m not falling over myself to start Wesneski down the stretch and teams have until 8/31 11:59 PM ET to get the 40 in order for playoffs

I'm not exactly jacked up about suggesting Wesneski either.  But I'd much rather have him start than Smyly for a variety of reasons.

But seriously, ignoring how bad the options are, who are you starting the next turn in the rotation?

Cubs are going to win, crybabies

Are you really whining that people are complaining about Drew Smyly giving up 7 runs in less then 4 innings? Personally I'll keep cheering for the cubs offense while also recognizing throwing out an awful pitcher over and over is a bad idea.

Getting Wicks to start tonight probably would have been a difficult task with his rotation spots in Iowa.  But they have plenty of time between tonight and Smyly's next turn to get that in order.  Wicks is the pitcher I'd go with here.  His changeup is a great pitch, he's going to get ground balls, throws a lot of strikes and he's got a real good mentality on the mound.  The Cubs should be working on figuring that out tonight.  They don't even had a full 40-man currently.  Get Wicks on the 40,  I wouldn't expect him to be a star right out of the gate, and probably never, but there's a pretty good arm there.  He's got as much upside as anyone they could put in there.

Gonna need Wesneski to get them through 7 tonight

lol. No they don't. But it's certainly never good to go to your bullpen in the 4th. Especially when the outcome was this predictable.
