It's Herz and Made

Had very high hopes for Herz a couple years ago.  Made was a mostly superfluous player in the organization with Hernandez, Rojas, Derniche, Vazquez, and Dansby manning short.  It costs something to get something, so oh well.  Welcome back Jeimer.

Decent prospects, but I'm fine with it.  Hertz has obvious control issues and Made is solid but maybe not much of a future on our MLB team, being blocked by guys and a questionable bat.

Candelario was arguably the best bat on the market and they have to give up something for him.  I'm hoping maybe an extension for him?

Unless they move some money I doubt it. I could actually see them kick that can down to the deadline next year too, if they can keep using roster flotsam to get 120 bats at the deadline.

Cubs will have lots of money.  Heyward will be off the books, Stroman, Hendricks, Bellinger may be gone.  That's like 75-85 million to spend somewhere.

It's about 100 million with Stro's contracts gone.

Don't forget that Happ and Hoerner's extensions start next year, so their combined LT number goes up about 20 million.  Add in a couple arb eligibles and minimum salaries and it's more like 70 million sans Stroman.

Is Candelario going to play 1st for us at this point? He's an upgrade, but I'd rather have Madrigal or Morel getting AB's at first

Jesse Rogers (via Marquee pregame show) said the Cubs will now look at the reliever market, and specifies the Rockies (Brad Hand/Brent Suter) and the Rays (trade and stash in minors) as teams to potentially look out for

My numbers include Happ at 20.3 million, and Nico at 11.7 million.  It does not include and of the three options, which will probably not come in to play anyway.  It includes all 0-3 guys.  It does not include arb guys.  They are going to be very cheap, and some won't be tendered contracts.

He will be playing 3rd everyday. Maybe an occasional 1b start here or there to let Madrigal start at 3rd once a week or something. They seem determined to just make Morel the everyday DH for the most part.

Nelly was never going to play for the Cubs, but Cuas isn't good.  Here's hoping the powers that be see something that they can easily tweak.

The Royals horsefeathers up pitchers left and right.  Their pitching infrastructure is jacked.

Cuas is a sidearm guy.  He's got great whiff rates, terrible chase rates (this doesn't make much sense).  I think there's a tweak here or there you can use to exploit these things.  There could be a good RP arm here.

That's a move. I don't mind moving Velasquez at all. Hopefully they can fix Cuas. Sure hope they've still got another bullpen move coming.

So looking deeper on Cuas...he actually has really impressive vertical movement on his slider but his slider placement is horrible.  He's leaving it all over the plate.  If you can get him to get that slider more on the black and use your vertical movement to generate the chase rate up, I think you'll have something.
